Molson Canadian now the official beer of the NHL as the most lucrative Sponsor ever

Just heard this on the Team 990. Don't have the time to search for a link but they basically said the Molson Canadian is now the official beer of the NHL after Molson and The NHL have signed the most lucrative sponsorship deal EVER in the NHL.

interesting.....so we can bury gomez in the minors now

So budweiser or others had no interest. I thought the NHL would want to make a deal like that with an american company.

I posted this earlier on the Out of Town thread, saw it on Lebrun's twitter. Here is the link to the NHL press release.

Terms of the seven-year deal weren't disclosed, but a source with knowledge of negotiations said it came in at slightly more than US$375 million.

Is Jeff Molson now the most powerful owner in the Nhl? If the Nhl fights him then they can also lose their biggest sponsor.. Just a thought.

I can't wait for the next call that goes in the Habs' favour. Conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day with this.

I just checked and Andrew Molson is the Vice Chairman of the board of directors, Geoff is on the board also. How much power that really is in the company im not really sure but sounds like they have some push around there.

The brewery isn't the owner of the Habs.

Molson the beer company has nothing to do with the Habs ownership.

The Habs are owned by the Molsons. Not by Molson.

Yeah but let's face it, it's all the same **** at the end of the day.

We'll land Crosby AND Ovechkin cause of this deal, book it.

Of course. Gomez isn't producing, Molson is just taking back his money one beer at a time.

Isn't geoff Molson still on the board of governor of Molson ? and they perhaps still got some percent of the company.

Molsons strategy:

Step 1: buy the habs

Step 2: get the highest payed drunk in the nhl.

Step 3: make the highest payed sponsorship deal ever in the nhl and demand the highest payed Russian and Maritimer, they must be drunks!

Simply genius!

Their first move should be to lower prices on beer in the bell center. Seriously, 10$ for a beer... Such a ripoff. Rather smuggle my own or not drink. I'd imagine, they would sell more beer if it didn't cost so damn much.

I can't believe some people actually manage to get drunk at these games. Would cost me like what 80$? All I know is even if I drink a 40oz of 7% pretty quickly I'm barely buzzed.

If drinking at sporting events was my thing I'd probably pre-drink a ton.

I'm sure he's a shareholder, but Molson is a public company. He gets a salary as a member of the board, but I doubt he's a majority shareholder at this point.

They should sell the beer 15$. Also the Molson Ex zone should die.

The drunks would just spend more money, not drink less.

And agreed about the Molson Ex Zone.

I believe that both sides respect each other very much and that it probably made the decision that much easier to go with Molson-Coors.

No doubt Leafs/Bruins fans will whine if we end up with more PP's in a game and bring this up, but expect stupid people to remain stupid.
