Dudley re-signs for four years

http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/...by-dudley.html

And, if that's not enough:

ajcthrashers
I can confirm Buffalo News report that Rick Dudley has signed four-year contract extension with #Thrashers. Official announcement tomorrow.

BenThrashers
Per buffalonews, Rick Dudley has signed an extension to stay on as #Thrashers GM. Don't be surprised to see an official announcement soon.

Don't expect an official announcement on Dudley on a game day. I won't be surprised if it's tomorrow though.

I just got through doing some research on him for something. Here is something to think about. Look at his two big trades (one as GM and one as Associate GM:

The Kovy and the Blackhawks trades.

The players we got Oduya, Bergie, Cormier, pick; Ladd, Buff, Sopel, Eager, Aliu. Since the pick got moved in the Buff deal we'll say the intake is 8 players. Of those 8, 1 has been moved, 1 is stuck in the ECHl, and 2 are likely to be traded away in Bergie and Sopel/Oduya. That's not looking so good right now.

Just saying

Waiting on waddell. My guess is "new ownership" won't allow that re-signing.

Oh, come on now! Brodie's pictures shouldn't be wiped away, I actually

We aren't THAT stiff on this board are we?

My post is also tongue in cheek so don't me!!!

earlier this season i went over the kovalchuk trade in it's entirety and this is what i came up with

the thrashers took
-Ilya Kovalchuk
-Jon Merrill
-Petr Buzek
-Ken Klee
-Brad Larson
-Chad Painchaud
and turned it into
-Johnny Oduya
-Niclas Bergfors
-Patrice Cormier
-Dustin Byfuglien
-Brent Sopel
-Ben Eager
-Akim Aliu
-Julian Melichori

granted we traded eager sense then but he was a throw in anyway.

you can see the whole thread here. http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=841777

seems perfectly fine to me

I understand what you are saying, but Bergie and Oduya were suppose to be the big pieces in that trade and both are in dog houses. Bergie in the coaches and Oduya in the fans. Could they both be traded in less than a week....yes. Will we have more to show for them, yes. My point was it seems to be a little disturbing that 50% of the players that he has traded for could be gone or in the low minors not seeming to be panning out as a prospect, in less than a week.

Dudley has done a great job of transforming this team that was aggressive offensively, weak defensively, soft, with shaky goaltending into a team that is exactly the same with different players.

What on earth has he done to deserve this? This team is in the exact same position it was last year, slowly sliding out of the playoffs after a jawdropping 2nd half collapse.

I wonder if this was a gift to him for not attempting to fix the teams core problems as they slid out of playoff contention.

i guess some fans will just never understand the process

:waits for someone to equate this team to same old Thrashers:

where was this team picked to finish? where did we realistically expect them to finish?

exactly...the future is damn bright.

Rick Dudley said last years team was a playoff team when he fired Anderson, he said this years team was a playoff team before the season started.

The team has slid from 2nd in the East to the outskirts of the playoff race in 3 months, and has gotten progressively worse in the process.

Pre-season, I picked this team to finish between 10th and 12th in the east. What do I win?

One is our captain and top goal scorer, one is on our top defensive pairing and leads the team in points, one is our best penalty killing defenseman, three others are on the team. This season, all of these players have totalled 58 goals and 94 assists for 152 points in their games as Thrashers. Two of our top three scorers were acquired by Dudley in these trades.

Two can play at that game.

Can't blame Dudley if he doesn't have cash to spend.

We had a lot of high price salaries leave last season Kovy, Kozlov, White, Lehtonen and the players we replacement them were all cheaper than the departing.

This team is not going to progress forward, unless we get some real owners willing to invest in this team.
We have a pretty good young core, we just need to spend more money and recruit some quality UFAs veterans that can help bridge the gap for our young players.

Another big offseason is needed by Dudley. I was optimistic when the Belkin case was resolved that maybe more cash will be available. Then whole ASG trying to sell this team fiasco came to light and I am no longer expecting much.

My expectations now are rock bottom, just like where this team sits in NHL payroll per team.

So it's a regular offseason for us.

Sorry, but I am not sold on the core. Any team that craps the bed over a three month period like this team has, does NOT have a good core. They may be young, but that is no indication they will be any better when they get older. Too much quit in that room.

Well what "CORE" are you talking about???

And I got the same feeling after tonight. Several guys need to go.

Here's the core as I see it:

Enstrom
Byfuglien
Ladd
Kane
Little
Wheeler
Burmistrov

Good Guys to Have Around:
Thorburn
Slater
Boulton
Stewart
Bergfors
Bogosian?
Stuart
Antropov
Hainsey

Completely Replaceable:
Modin
Stapleton
Sopel
Oduya
Mason

With a different coaching staff, I can see Bogosian, Bergfors, and Stewart join the core.

But BTN is right: this team has the exact same problems it has always had. For all the talk about how tough this club was supposed to be to play against, they're Charmin soft.

It's sad listening to Dan Kamal after the collapses happen every night. I'd love to sit down and listen to him tell us the real truths about what's going on in the room. I think ownership has had a big part of it but even still, once in a while a blind squirrel is going to find an acorn.

Not having an AHL team is also a killer because look at how we are forced to play our kids before they are ready. All that guys like Bogosian, Little, Kane, and Burmistrov are learning is how to lose in the NHL before they even become adults.

ATL hasn't had someone willing to go off like that since Hi-Bob got the boot.

In regards to their physical play, I remember Darren Eliot saying something earlier in the year that Ramsey doesn't really preach hitting at all. He's not against it but it's not something he puts a premium on so to speak.
