Zherdev = Cancer

I'll laugh when he's sitting at the end of the bench and Godard's on the ice instead when he's back.

Total waste of talent on his part.

This team doesn't have coat tails to ride these days.

We have the cap space, we need the talent, he brings a small cap hit, and he'd essentially be a low risk rental player. I say go for it.

I'm inclined to the side with the "Zherdev is poison" sentiment, but it would be fun to watch those who *****ed about Shero not signing him in the offseason react to watching our defense win/keep us in games in the postseason while Zherdev is a nonfactor.

In all likelihood the Kings will probably claim him

When will we know if he claimed him or some other team does? I think he would be a great fit. RW and we don't have to trade anyone. If it doesn't work out ohh well.

No real risk, potential high reward, and with Malkin out I am not in favor at all of 'going for it' at the cost of significant assets. Read, our first, Tangradi, Beau Bennett, Despres, etc. And we have a ton of unused cap space to play with with Malkin's injury.

He makes lots of sense on the small chance he falls to us on many levels.

That said he is the antithesis of my "Shero is building a Western conference style team' theory. He really might be subtraction by addition. That said, it is a minor roll of the dice and he can be waived again. But I am not entirely sure that Shero wants anything at all to do with this kind of player no matter how cheap.

I think he'd be a good claim. Usually, I wouldn't want to take a risk on him, but he's trying to rejuvenate his career, and he was doing decent in Philly. Like others said though, their depth made him expandable, which will probably light a fire under his ass and he'll want to prove a point.

That or the complete opposite will happen. Either way, I'd take the risk. His skill is silky smooth, baby.

I'd do it without thinking twice. The shame is he'll be gone before he reaches them on the wire.

Penguins picking up Zherdev would not be a smart move. Yes he is a ridiculous offensive threat but he is a detriment to the team at the same time. Holding the puck too long, not hustling, no defense, not working hard in practice, etc. That being said I think it would a great bit to the rivalry...give Flyers fans another reason to boo and give Pens fans another reason to stick it to the booing Flyers fans. Wouldn't surprise me if no one claimed him. Teams know his story. There's a reason the Flyers were the only team really showing interest in him this offseason.

He doesn't do much for me. He also seems to clash with the way we play.

Except games when his lazy and selfish play leads to odd-man rushes and bad goals. I'd certainly rather get him off waivers than trade anything for him but all the same... he will just piss off the coaches and end up in the press box after 2 or 3 games. Pass.

When Shero talks about a "Guerin-like rental", that is the exact opposite of what Zherdev brings.

So what if he does though? Once again, with Geno on the IR we have the cap space to work with, and we wouldn't have to give up anybody in return! The onyl way I ignore Zherdev is if Shero is currently on the hunt to make a deal for someone else in the coming days. If not though, then Zherdev once again seems like a low risk move for us. It's not like we're much better off going into the playoffs with someone like Dupuis on our L1 wing.

Put him on a line with our 2nd-4th line scrubs and tell him to hog the puck all he wants.

Yah I'm sure that would do wonders for locker-room stability. Everyone has to work hard except Zherdev.

yes, if any lockerroom/coach can get him to by in it's ours. We are short on skill and if it doesn't work... it didn't cost us anything.

No risk, High reward.

I'd give him a shot, if he somehow comes here and works hard, is productive and fits into the team, all big "ifs" but.... if then he would be a good player to consider for "" spot on the the Neal Malkin player X line next season. Another young creative European on the team would probably do wonders for Malkin.

dont expect defense
expect lazyness when he tries to dangle through a defense then gets stopped and hangs his head

Let's hope we can still have a chance on getting Weiss. Helps short and long term and i'd give up Tangradi+1st for him.

Neal-Staal-Zherdev
Kunitz-Weiss-Jeffrey
Cooke-Letestu-TK
Conner-Adams-Talbot

Next season

Kunitz-Crosby-UFA
Neal-Malkin-Weiss (takes Malkins draws)
Cooke-Staal-TK?
Adams?-Letestu-Jeffrey
That would be some sick center depth!
Not sure how it would work out with the cap. And I don`t like the fact Tangradi wouldn`t be in the system anymore

Yet so many people are clamoring for Kovalev. I'll take Zherdev, especially if you're looking to make other moves.

I'd take a chance on him. The offense could not get any worse. And it doesn't matter how good we are defensively if we can't score

Carcillo & Shelley have been getting the minutes instead of Zherdev the past few weeks.

That should tell you something....
