Stars sign Eric Godard to 2 year deal

Apparently you guys are getting the tough guy to a two way deal.

He can help out Barch plenty, and make sure no one murders Ott!

I don't understand... Why would we do this? He only looks to me like yet another Barch... And we don't even want the original one...

Two-way contract this year. One-way contract next season. Per Mark at ESPN.

And now makes it on the Star's homepage. It's a two year deal, with the first being a two way deal and the second year a one way deal. Looks like this is the end for Barch.

I think we could possibly be the toughest team in the league now

I thought Gazdic was going to take over. But I'll support anything that gets rid of Barch ASAP.

One more nice depth signing. He is another piece of Nieuwendyk's 'hard to play against' strategy. More toughness, like it. Now we have ~ 15 forwards on our roster; it will be interesting to see who is going to make the team.

If it means the end of Barch, I'm all for it. Godard is a tough customer.

If your gonna get a fighter, might as well get one of the toughest of the past decade. He should be a lot of fun to watch!

Glad Joe sees Barch as useless as we all does. No other explanation to the way this contract is structured and this being Barch's contract year. Hopefully Barch gets scratched a lot.

Godard can actually fight. I've seen his fights with Boogaard, this is a guy that can take/deliver a punch. I hope Barch goes on waivers.

Is it Godard that I'm remembering from the 24/7 mini-series or was it Engelland who seemed to be fighting all the time? In any case, when you start at the lowest of lows (Barch) you can only go up.

Im hoping Eric's presence allows Ott to focus purely on his offensive game.

I still don't see how he'll fit in this season. Dallas proved last year they'd bury a one-way contract in the AHL with Fabian Brunnstrom, but they also proved with Segal that the money was also a key factor.

I don't really know how they'll play this. I guess the best option as a fan is waiving Barch (praying he gets picked up) and ultimately paying him to play in the AHL. However, I don't really think they'll have an enforcer playing 82 games. I imagine, assuming the team is healthy, Petersen and a the fighter would alternate depending on the opponent/situation. Assuming that is correct, I don't understand why they'd pay Goddard to sit 40 or 50 games with Barch down in the AHL.

IMO, if Barch doesn't get traded or picked up on waivers, Goddard will start in Texas. I just can't imagine them committing $1.6 million to enforcers when they can spend $955K. I'm fairly certain his deal is structured so he does not require re-entry waivers in Season 1 so as long as you waived him early and never kept him up too long, you could call him up as needed with no fear. I believe the 2nd year on his contract would make most hesitant to take him.

First off i dont understand why everyone hates barch so much, i mean i know he is no where near the best fighter in the nhl but he is a really good team mate and he has a great physical presence and is willing to fight anyone for a teamate. i honestly like barch alot but godard will be a great asset.

I think that unless dowell is alot better then i think that he will be in the ahl and i say send either wandell or petersen down and have barch and godard share time.

I could be wrong but I believe Godard (only one D) has accumulated enough NHL games that he needs to clear waivers regardless of the deal being a 2 way. I could be wrong but I think that's how it works.

Pen's fan here. Good character guy in the locker room, one of the better fighters in the league, not a entire mess on the ice but wouldn't let him play more then 5-8 minutes a game.

Earned a lot of respect with Pens fans for jumping off the bench during the Islanders game when Haley tried fighting Johnson.

It's not complicated. He's an enforcer who loses a majority of his fights. The ones he doesn't are generally boring run-out-the-clock grapplefests. He can't play hockey. And you want to send Wandell down so the team can carry 2 fighters? Are you out of your mind?
