I love the Free Agent Frenzy thread on the Kings section, it's been entertaining me all afternoon. Their take on the signings around the league can be summed up with just a picture:

Seattle in discussions to build an NHL ready arena..

Quote:
KIRO 7 has confirmed, from various highly placed government and community sources, that discussions are in the works to build an arena on the Eastside that would house a potential NHL team, with the ability to transform the venue into a basketball arena, and bring NBA basketball back to the greater Seattle area.

KIRO 7 sources indicate that Chicago businessman Don Levin has been in town recently meeting with various stakeholders about the new arena.

haha I managed to get $50 down on Washington to win the cup at 17/2 before the odds changed. That's money in the bank boys.

Tomas Vokoun at 1.5 mill just isn't fair. That's one stacked team now

There've been some really lopsided trades the past few days. I know a lot of people on this board were interested in acquiring Franson and now he just gets given away basically to facilitate a salary dump. Embarrassing for the Preds. Surprised more teams weren't trying to pounce on this situation.

The only thing I can think of is that they know they ****ed up badly on the QOs and are intent on keeping those players.

Oh wow, I really like Lombardi. Nashville definitely got bent over on that one, massive salary dump or not.

Apparently Lombardi may not even play next season, so the Preds wanted his cap hit off the books. Guess they couldn't hide him in LTIR or anything, had to give up Franson to clear that space.

San Jose gets even stronger. Someone really needs to delete Doug Wilson from Fletcher's phone for his own good. Just a brutal week for Minnesota.

Nice signing by the Blues to bring in Nichol for only 700k. I'll give Armstrong credit, he got all his important players under contract fairly quickly and made a nice add here. I think this is the year they get back to the playoffs.

If he signs Langenbrunner though I take all of that back.

I take it back double with the added news about Arnott. Talk about the worst kind of "veteran leadership".

At least Arnott is probably worth 2.5M, that's a hilarious overpayment for Langenbrunner.

Lombardi may be a jackass, but I love how he's exposing Edmonton as the shoddy organization it is.

Fun stuff

You'd think they'd make an extra effort to be professional considering the deck's already stacked against them in terms of their location.

I bet Souray is pretty happy about hearing this, Edmonton can't afford to have this **** happen on their watch.

My favorite quote from the article:

Quote:
An Oilers spokesman said General Manager Steve Tambellini was traveling and unavailable for comment.
...as if this were 1984 and they were unable to get a hold of him. I didn't realize any organization in professional sports of the highest level could or would behave this way.

So after Hulsizer pulled out of the Coyotes bidding, it was reported he was checking into buying the Blues. Andy Strickland writes a very informative article...I wish we had someone like him reporting in Dallas to be honest.
http://www.truehockey.com/articles/Asking-Too-Much
Quote:
Sources very close to Hulsizer tell me he is not interested in paying the $200 Million Checketts is asking for.

Sure Hulsizer has money but he’s also looking to make a smart business decision. Everyone is looking for the Terry Pegula’s (Owner of the Buffalo Sabres) of the world but in reality these guys are few and far between.
Any way you slice it, the current asking price is unsupported by the business model. In other words it’s pretty close to impossible to break even at $200 million.

Didn't Crawford pretty much castrate him while he was here?

The Blues have cemented their position next year as the league's resident nursing home by signing Cheechoo.

He'll never see another NHL game.

Colour me surprised if he does.

What a steal by the Avs to get Shane O'Brien on a cheaper deal than the one he was coming off of. Never thought that would've been possible. Looks more appealing than the Pardy contract.

Well they need something to cheer about, I guess.....not too optimistic about the Avs this year, with Varly as their starter.
