Definately fits the mold but I'm guessing that he would command a significant return.

Shannon is a UFA and Foligno is a RFA at the end of the season. I believe if Hodgson and Oreo are sent down it fits.

To me the biggest need is options, if Raymond can't find his scoring touch he moves down to the 3rd line and continues his solid defensive play. Foligno can play on the 3rd line, move up to the 2nd if Raymond isnt working, etc. Shannon solicited the 4th line C spot with Torres/Hansen/Glass as his wingers. It makes us more versatile, which IMO is the biggest 'need' before the deadline.

I don't know if the value is good enough for the Sens. With Shannon being a UFA I would think his cost would be roughly a mid-round pick so that gives them a pick upgrade and shirokov for Foligno.

Thoughts?
Foligno is a solid player but Shannon? Been there done that with that smurf, he's terrible.

It's the trade deadline, isn't that Burke's time to trade 2nd round picks for useless old farts?

What's the general feeling on Jason Arnott out of NJD? It would have to mean Raymond going the other way for there to be any chance of cap compliance.

Here's something to think about:

Arnott + Rod Pelley + Rob Davison

for

Mason Raymond + Aaron Rome

Jersey gets the best asset really in Raymond, a young player. Arnott could be a fit with Kesler, and has cup experience. Seems like a character veteran. Pelley would replace Hodgson on the fourth line, opening up a little cap room. Davison would be Moose bound when Bieksa returns (hopefully in the next two weeks).

I dislike Arnott. Personal prejudices aside, my priority would be to upgrade the 2nd line, and is Arnott any material upgrade on Raymond? Grit and size at the expense of youth and speed?

Raymond isn't like... 21 anymore. He's a "roster" player now.

I wasn't suggesting otherwise. Arnott is 36, Raymond is 25. That is material I think.

I'd expect there to be some roster juggling if in fact we are about to make a move. Tanev, Oreskovich, esp Hodgson, and even Schneider could be "sent" down for a couple days to stay cap compliant. I personally don't see the need to dress 18 guys when the fourth line barely gets played anyways. If it means we can add a component for the playoffs, it's worth taking a small hit short term.

I thought Hodgson performed well the past few games and deserves to stay, but I'd be surprised to see him make it through tomorrow without being demoted.

The timing of the Sweatt and Bieksa is really awkward. If they were both healthy right now we could send down Sweatt and Tanev, freeing up a bunch more $$$.

Why? Last night the Canucks played one of the tougher and grittier teams and more than held their own. And that was without Bieksa and Edler.

Nobody ever really gives any real suggestions of who would fit cap wise and is actually available.

I'd love to trade Raymond for Ladd but that's not happening. Nick Foligno is bigger but he's a lousy hockey player. I'd rather just stick with Raymond and hope he breaks out of his funk like Burrows, Malhotra, Torres and Samuelsson did.

Could Raymond/1st + get it done? I'm assuming you would need to add more but not sure what it would take to even it out.

Raymond hasn't been effective in a long time. He carries the puck in, makes a few dekes and is bumped off or makes a pass that leads to nothing.

Okay, I don't watch much Wild and not sure of his value as much as I am of Reasoner, what would be the absolute most that you'd pay for Madden?

Shirokov + 3rd would get it done I think. A 2nd seems a little high but I'd probably do that too.

Held their own? Really? The goals that were scored were a direct result of a stronger team out muscleing a weaker team. Lucic, Chara and even Horton all exposed our weakness last night. In some ways, I'm glad they did.

A 2-1 game until the EN where the Canucks missed several open nets and Thomas made several remarkable saves. Yes, they held their own.
