As expected. Heard this rumor somewhere. Surprised he didn't fetch a higher pick.

Great move for the Sens. They will be much better off without that lazy turd influencing their young players. Now if they can actually move Gonchar I might start getting scared of them again.

7th.. turns into a 6th if Pitt wins 1st round and Kovalev plays 50% of those games.

He's still owed a month and a half of his paycheck...that's money saved, if nothing else.

Yikes, my nightmare becomes a reality. The Pens really need a heartless floater like Kovalev...? I think not. Hate this trade. Congrats Ottawa.

Gonchar hasn't been that bad this year. Everyone's had a ****** year, but I'd look at the coaching and goaltending situation as being the prime culprits. When you have Karlsson, Rundblad, and Cowen playing on the team next year, having a solid veteran who understands both ends of the ice could be worth keeping around.

Some upside? In terms of raw talent he is among the best in the league. The issue with him has always been giving up and/or not actually caring enough to put forth effort.

If the Pens can light a fire under him, he could be crazy deadly on Crosby's wing. If not, they lose a 6th or 7th round pick, which is basically nothing.

Conditional 7th. No wonder Homer couldn't get anything for Zherdev.

Many have already reported that Bryan Murray has been ordered to cut payroll. This saves the team about 1.2M over the rest of the season. That's 1.2M more in the owners pocket.

Save them a cool $1 million. Good thing for the Sens.

I'm fine with the price Shero paid to land Kovalev.

If he pans out and actually re-kindles some of his past glory and provides secondary scoring to push the Pens past round one, then it's worth the 6th round pick it becomes. If he sucks in Pittsburgh and the Pens bow early, oh well, it's a 7th round pick.

I was worried he'd end up trading a 4th or higher for Kovalev.

They're not making the playoffs this year, and you should get anything at all for an impending UFA that you're not going to resign

The NTC would have had him handcuffed a bit. Kovalev's list of teams was probably very short.

I have a link confirming Kovalev has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. I'll post the thread soon.

Malkin and Kovalev would have been interesting to watch.
