Probably had two teams on the list Montreal and Pittsburgh. I'm glad he didn't come to Montreal, but I'm scared of what he could do with such amazing centers.

I guess it's not much of a risk for a seventh. We'll see what happens.

Not happy about it, but not overly surprised either.

He arrived as a free agent so it's not as if he cost anything beyond his salary.

I'm sure Eugene Melnyk is happy not having to pay his salary.
It's a million...maybe less than that. SBP gives a large financial return on events and Melnyk probably drops that much on the casino on an off day. The return just isn't that hot any way you look at it.

Murray handcuffed himself with the NTC, knowing full well Kovalev would be on the decline. One bad move does not preclude fixing the bad move later on...which Murray only did in the most circuitous manner.

Good deal for both teams.
Sens shed salary and get a pick for a UFA.
Pens add a winger with a lot of upside even if it is a gamble. The gameble is worth a 7th and 1 million in capspace.

50% chance he does very well in Pitts.
50% chance he bombs it.

Crosby-Neal
Malkin-Kovalev

If they were all healthy, the penguins would actually look very dangerous.

Suddenly Malkin isn't the laziest Russian on the Pens

A 7th rounder is awesome. Doesn't matter if he works out or not now. We basically got him for future considerations. IF he doesn't work, fine, we'll bench him. If he does? Well, that'd be sweet

Nice move by Shero.

Not sure why yuo are so upset over the return....if somebody offered more and Kovalev was willing to go there, he would have gone for the higher return.

Be mad about the NTC but don't be mad about the return - he really isn't worth very much.

Learn to read? The condition is the pick turns into a 6th based on certain conditions being met.

a 7th for a potential game breaker...

say what you want about Kovalev, but he always comes up with the goods in the playoffs.

That's what Sens fans have been saying to themselves for 1.5 seasons

Who on the Penguins get pushed out by incoming Neal, Kovalev and Svatos?

Shero sure loves making moves to get playoff depth. Good move for only a 7th. Although Kovalev actually showing up is key.

I like the deal, only question is the 5 million owed after this year. I'm not sure how that's going to affect the cap structure.

This is a steal for the Pens. You get a guy with as much upside as Kovalev in his game for a 7th? Nice.

Good for PIT, don't see this as a bad move at all.

Nothing to lose here for Pittsburgh, smart move on their part. When Kovalev wants to play he's still very dangerous, he just never turned it on in Ottawa. For the Sens, you'd like to think they could have gotten a higher pick, maybe a 3-5th rounder, but in reality, everyone has known Kovalev has been available forever. This is probably the best they could do.
