Apparently it's for a 7th round pick.

according to Renaud Lavoie (@renhockey on twitter) and RDS, it's for a 7th round pick.

Well I guess after that enormous Mara deal, there was no need for anything else.

Habs are aiming for something much better. (That's what I keep telling myself.)

I would have taken a shot on Kovy for a 7th... I really think we could use a decent scoring winger.

So Mara has more value than Kovalev, interesting....

Not doing anything would be much better than getting Kovalev, so...

As much as Kovalev was happy in Montreal back at the time, not sure he would have waived his NTC to come here right now given his choices. I don't see him working well with Martin and there is only one hole at forward in the line-up. Doesn't seem like the best situation for him; lots of pressure.
I didn't really want him. But I'd have certainly offered a 6th round pick for him.
Ah well, on to the next one. Let's claim Steve Bernier off waivers today.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I'm thrilled Kovalev's not coming anywhere here.

There is absolutely no guarantee Kovalev would be a decent scoring winger if we picked him up. The only thing I could practically guarantee is that he would have been a distraction.

Oh, then my apologies to tricolore. It's really not my fault, though, as I've seen many responses like that that AREN'T sarcastic.

So, basically, Ottawa was giving Kovalev for free...
At least, that non-story is over now.
