I like it. Good return, wish it was Oduya that was shipped but at least the selling has begun.

Decent prospect, was always good in AHL and traning camp..never did much in his spell in the NHL. Give him a chance he might become decent.

He has #2 center upside but plays a style of game that requires him to be on a scoring line. SO if he can't become a second line center he's an AHLer. But he's still only 22 and has skills...

Garbage move. There's no reason to trade Sopel who is one of the two players that could be counted on to play tough.
Hard to believe we'd rather move Sopel than Oduya when Sopel was worth his contract. For another AHLer?

At least now Dawes isn't an option for a call up. Just brutal man, should have shipped Timmy Stapes with em too.

Oduyas contract is not very good, would have been harder to move. not to mention we are dangerously close to the floor

So..top 10 in blocked shots, PK defencemen, and Shut down guy, and some of our "depth" that every one is saying we dont have. For a 4th round pick, and a guy who is pointless in 20 games in the NHL...realll nice trade. Real nice. Wait til the deadline, get all you can for him. I guarentee Sopel could of gotten a guy at least has a point in the league

You don't give up much and you don't get much in return. Simple as that.

We completed the ridding of the useless Blackhawks and we got a good return! Buff and Ladd are the only two valuable ones, the other two were useless.

Sopel sucked. He was a 6th defensemen on a team that had one good defensemen LOL. Stuart came right in and cleaned house. Stuart >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sopel. Now people can stop reffering to us as the Blackhawks of the East lol. Glad that saga is over.

Maxwell is a 22 year old, former 2nd round pick. He DESERVES a chance and might get it in Atlanta.

We gave up a guy who has played some of his best hockey in the past 5 years, and an NHL ready call -up. for another late draft pick, and a prospect who most Habs fans would throw for a bag of pucks. Wait the 5 days, And take a better offer. This trade doesn't do anything for us making it this early

Sopel < Stuart. We didn't need him. He's a UFA at season's end, so we weren't getting anything for him.

Dawes was invisible the whole time he was here besides one good shift against Tampa Bay.

Maxwell can take Stapleton's spot and I think that's a plus.

Sopel was very solid at the start of the season, but since the November/december miracle he's been pretty atrocious. His head isn't in the game because he'd rather be at home with the family. I really like Sopel, but his heart just doesn't seem to be in it.

As brought up last night, I counted 9 times this season when the Thrashers have given up two goals in less than a minute. Out of a possible 18 goals, Sopel has been on the ice for 10 of them, while Oduya's been out for 11. Oduya's on the books for another $3 million season next year, but it's his UFA year also. Don't let him fool you.... Oduya's going to come out like gangbusters next season, but don't forget his stupidity of this season... move him at the deadline next season!

Nice to see Dudley continuing Waddell's fine tradition of loading up our AHL team for a playoff run.

Sopel never wanted to be here, but he was very solid for the first half.

How many borderline NHL forwards with little upside do we really need?

Not impressed, and it is rather sad we could not even get to hanging in the playoff hunt until March considering where we were in Mid December. Then again, I didn't get a 4 year extension, Dudley did.

I don't think there's enough crying going on in here. We should do it some more. And all this over trading Brent freakin Sopel.

These boards are starting to look like the Main boards more and more each day.

1) wrong. UFAs routinely get a big return for teams wanting them for a playoff run.

2) Invisible or not, No one can talk about us lacking NHL ready call-ups. We trade them away for nothing.

3) Maxwell is another Stapleton with some upside. Pass.

So we trade an NHL call-up, and one of the best shot blockers in the league this year, and PK guy, for..a 4th round pick..and a guy MTL is happy to have out of there system.

It is TRADE DEADLINE. People routinely over-pay for needs. Not under-cut. Especially with reports MTL lost Spacek for the year.

Dawes didn't prove to be a capable call up; he did nothing when he was here. What do you think we could've gotten for Sopel?

How about a 4th liner who plays hard. Or a 4th Liner who can play PK. Hell how about a prospect who has a point in under 20 NHL games. Why do we need another high AHL but no NHL guy. We have tim Stapleton for that.

IMO Maxwell could be (at best) a third line player and like someone said on the trade board the way he is playing in the NHL he will get killed one day.

This trade is good for both team
