I think you're underrating Toews.

Yzerman from 1995-2000 was a Selke-caliber forward who was also good for around a PPG. Toews is a Selke-caliber forward (he was 4th in Selke voting last season) and while the points aren't there just yet, he is close to a PPG this season.

Both are obviously excellent leaders and very clutch. As good as Yzerman was, he never had as good a playoffs (stat-wise) as Toews just had.

I would rather have Toews on this team than any other center in the league besides Crosby and Stamkos.

Does the name Ryan Getzlaf ring any bells? I'd take him over Toews any and every day of the week.

We'll have to agree to disagree, he certainly isn't in my top 5 and maybe in my top 10 but not a lock. I was going to call you out on not saying Stamkos but you caught your mistake

Agreed 100%, and that's not even considering Getzlaf's cap hit is 1 million less than Toews

To pry Getzlaf out of Anaheim, they would want Vanek, Stafford, Adam, and a 1st. At the minimum, probably more.

Getzlaf
Toews
Stastny

Getzlaf has the size & power game that Toews and Stastny don't possess.

I forgot about Getzlaf. But just from the stats, he seems to be declining since his 91 point season in 08-09. There must be a reason for that, but he is basically on a super-line with Ryan and Perry now. I don't really know what to say.

I would take either on the Sabres any day though!

Nobody is trying to, Kassian just said that he wants Toews over any center not named Crosby or Stamkos, and we rebutted with Getzlaf. For me, there's a lot bigger list than that though.

I have no problem with that, for me its

Getzlaf

Toews / Stastny

but that's just me. Clearly I'm in the minority on Toews

I think Toews and Stastny are close numbers-wise. But, I think Toews has the intangibles by a landslide.

Can't see them trading him without significant overpayment; all of their fans and members of their organization love him. I'd personally rather overpay for Brassard

If Edmonton is trying to pry Schenn out of LA with a Hemsky deal, get in on that action!

Crosby, Stamkos, Getzlaf, Toews, Kesler, Richards, other Richards, Backstrom... Damn, I wish we had one of those guys. It seems like the only chance you have of getting a true #1 center is by drafting one.

And a lot of those guys weren't even drafted in the top 3. I'd love to land a guy like Gezlaf or Richards with our middling first round pick.

Yeah, imagine what this team would be like if we got 1 or 2 more 1st round picks in 03 (which wouldn't have been all that far-fetched, seeing how trades were done back then, and where Buffalo was in the standings). Drafting Vanek, as well as one of Getzlaf/Kesler/Richards/Carter? Yeah, that would've made a world of difference today.

Honestly I'm sold on this Larsson guy who will kost likely go first overall in this years draft.
I'd love to trade Roy for the first overall pick. Roy won't help us this season anyways.
I think that Larsson guy is going to be a clutch guy. Roy just isn't that kind of player.

Other targets I'd prefer:

Statsny
Rebeiro
M. Koivu
Stoll
Shirokov

I've said it in other threads but I'd trade any one player on this team with a pick for tj oshie.

Your last name doesn't rhyme with "joeshie," does it?

Too bad Larsson's a defenseman, and this is a thread about centers. I don't want Ribeiro anywhere near this team.

Yes and no. They'll want something more than picks/prospects back, but they have so many holes that you could probably sneak him out with Sekera/Adam/McNabb/2nd or something like that.

If the key element for getting Brassard was Stafford, I'd drive up to Buffalo and pack his bags myself.
