How does he help the Rangers PP when he couldn't do anything for Florida's??
Because now he's pissed!

He instantly becomes the Rangers' hardest shot. Something they've been missing from the powerplay. They control it well, but they don't get enough point shots, mainly because the point men are playmakers primarily. Florida's powerplay is just god awful in every facet. When you can't get the puck to your point man, McCabe in this instance, he won't be getting many points. The Rangers powerplay is way better.

The Rangers do not have any shooters on the point on the PP.

Everyone they have that play the point have a tendency to think pass first and more often than not when the shot is there, they defer. McCabe will not do that. When the shot is there, he will take it and with his shot and propensity for getting it on net more often than not, it's going to cause lot of problems for opposing teams.

Florida didn't have a great PP, but they also had lesser talent to work with than the Rangers do.

Is he going to vault them to heights not seen in decades? Hell no, but he will help them as he provides something the Rangers currently do not have.

So McCabe playing today, and Staal is out of the lineup.

McCabe's still paired on our 3rd unit and is not in the top 4

Havn't seen enough of Florida McCabe but in Toronto he was never a great puck mover, he has(had) a canon of a shot though. If someone can feed him a pass like Kaberle could then good things can happen IF he is not the only option on the PP. His best numbers came the year after the lockout when the Leafs still had Sundin and some competent forwards on the PP. A couple years later though that was ALL our PP was, McCabe 1 timers. It was defended so easily by constantly having a forward in his face the entire time.

He won't turn a PP around but he can be a good solid piece to one. That is if he is still in Toronto form.

Like the deal for New York. Mccabe should be a good fit on their defense.

-Ryan Carter was waived a couple of times by the Ducks since summer 2010 (maybe 3 or 4 times). He was later traded to the Canes for two "useless" contracts.

It just shows how those two guys are just "throw in" in those deals. If the Panthers really wanted those guys, they would have gotten them sooner because they had 1000 chances to acquire them over the last few months.
At this point, we just need bodies, with all the injuries we have. At least in Carter's case that's true. He's still on a bit of an audition this year though when he gets back. Hey, if he plays well enough, he could earn a 4th line center spot for next year. No harm in seeing how he does. We still got more than Ottawa got for Kovalev.

McCabe was great today. It's nice to have a guy who has a cannon from the point for the first time in about 10 years.

Well, game one and he looked comfortable moving the puck on the PP. Not like he's a puck mover that wants the puck all the time, but he looked like he knew what he was doing and moved it effectively and decisively to his linemates, which helped them set it up to feed him the puck

Bottom line he at least looked like he knew what to do with the puck on the PP
