Rangers fans overrating their young players.... that's never happened before.

In a few days, most every Rangers fan will be praising McCabe and how he has become a "changed player" in New York.

but it's true. Girardi, Sauer and McDonagh are playing freaking amazing right now. The two rookies have gotten better and better each game.

if those are assets to you then you may have them good sir. we most likely do not want McCabe after this season anyway so resign away, we got what we needed which was a veteran d-man who could help us on the PP and we got exactly what we needed. we should be thanking you guys actually

Kennedy doesn't seem to be a bad player, though he's a bit small. Not expecting to see him this season, though. Third is what it is, could be used in a trade at some point, too.

Good trade by Sather, and like Stillman, this is likely the best Tallon could get for a guy with a NMC. Gets rid of a big contract to hopefully be used elsewhere. More would've been nice, but I don't hate this.

No, he won't; that rarely ever happens, and he's not needed here anymore, to be honest.

Flavor of the month. And it's no coincidence that only one of them has more than 10 points even strength.

Because... our team system stresses defensemen playing defense at even strength instead of high tailing up the ice.

Very rarely if ever do our defensemen even advance down from the blueline at all during ES.

Well all three are defensive defenseman and two are rookies.
Sauer has been good all year.
Girardi has been top pairing Caliber.
McDonagh has played very well since being called up.

Are you seriously valuing a d-man on the amount of points he has? None of those guys are here for that purpose. But once again, thanks for the ignorance.

Just speaks to how well they are playing otherwise for us to be impressed. These guys are not point-getters. They are awesome in every other aspect.

D-men can't be judged by points

McDonagh was assigned to cover Ovechkin last night. What was the score of that game

As much as I am disappointed in this return, this is the truth. We got something which is better than nothing, and the Panthers clearly were not signing McCabe in the summer. If Kennedy turns out to be a better bottom 6 players than some of our other prospects are projecting to be (i.e. McCardle, Repik, etc.), then it's still something decent. You need guys like that. Unfortunately we have 3 lines of that every year it seems...

While I share your praise of McDonagh as well as your criticism of Norm MacDonald's shallow comments of Rangers fans and their young players...

It was Girardi who was really assigned to covering Ovechkin. OV plays both sides of the ice and while McDonagh certainly held his own against him when needed, he also was caught staring at the puck and got undressed by OV's toe drag move and had to take a penalty to stop him from going 1 on 1 with Lundqvist that night.

Even during the Rangers pre-game they acknowledged that on the Staal/Girardi line, Girardi does a lot of OV shutdown even though Staal is technically his "wing-pairing".

-----

As for the trade, another great move by Sather. Win win really for Rangers. Kennedy wasn't in the team's plans and was AHL fodder all season -- and 3rd rounder is chump change in a weak draft really.

We got a pretty decent vet D-man for a playoff run to help out the kids and he's a UFA this summer. Couldn't have asked for a better scenario in my opinion.

The D are bad on the breakout, sorry. They won their last couple games, so Rangers fans are all optimistic about how awesome their team is. If you don't think a veteran D like McCabe (who is a plus player on a non-playoff team and has been playing 20+ minutes a night) will be in your top four, then you really don't deserve to have him.

We have him, and he won't be in our top 4 once Staal returns. SO that pretty much kills your entire argument. Whether or not we "deserve" to have him is tough cookies. We do.

He won't be in our top 4 when Staal returns.

And we've been optimistic all season about these guys. Probably the brightest spot of our team along with Stepan this year. They are ahead of him on the depth chart. And not because we've won two games in a row.
