Kennedy gets to play in Rochester now right? Happy for him if that's the case. I mean, I'm sure he wants to play in the NHL but being so close to home again isn't a bad thing.

I wish him luck.

Your speculation doesn't "kill" anything. He'll be getting 20+ minutes a night even after Staal returns. Prove me wrong.

Tim Kennedy played 78 regular season games for the 3rd seeded Sabres (100 points) last year, and put up 26 points (10 goals), as a 23-year old rookie.

Forgive us for not getting Sidney Crosby for the great Bryan McCabe.

I think most would consider an NHL-caliber roster player + a 3rd round pick "fair" for a 35-year old D man who's a rental/was only willing to waive his NMC to one team.

And I'd much rather have Kennedy over a guy like Gilroy, who Rangers fans were ready to give us. Even Christensen.

Kennedy can play in the NHL, and he's cheap which is cool for us. No more overpaying for average players. That's great; perhaps the money we have now will go to some better players when the time is right.

Anyone who thinks McCabe doesn't crack our top 4 is nuts.

Hell, I'd say hes our #3 Dman now after Staal and Girardi.

Pretty happy about this move. We didn't give up much, he instantly improves our PP (or maybe I'm just being optimistic...), and having a veteran presence on D makes me a lot more comfortable going down the stretch.

Lets not go crazy. Mccabe probably slots in as a top 4 and Mcdonagh slides back and makes a solid third pair with Eminger or Gilroy. No need to rush Mcd, especially in his first season of more than 50 games.

Brad Richards for $8 mill probably

Anyways, the whole "top four" thing is kind of screwy anyways because it's more about pairings. The Girardi and Staal are a set pairing that McCabe won't be breaking up. Sauer and McDonagh are another and probably won't get broken up with the way they've been playing. McCabe will probably get paired with Gilroy or Emminger and be the "third" pairing at even strength.

However he'll probably get a lot of PP time, moreso than Sauer and McDonagh, etc, which will boost his total time on ice a lot.

Also just depends on how he plays. If he's not being reliable on defense Tortorella simply isn't going to give him even strength time, no matter who he is or how long he's been playing.

Kennedy has to go through re-entry to play in the NHL, so you probably won't be seeing him this year because he'd most likely be claimed. He's an RFA at the end of the summer, no guarantee he'd be cheap.

He's a nice little player. Not a very high ceiling, but a hard worker who can chip in some offense. If he was bigger, his value would be a lot higher.

After not playing in the NHL this year, I'm sure it won't take much to bring him back.

Why hasn't the deal been posted on the respective teams' main sites? Is this even the official deal? Both teams seem to be really quiet about it. Anyone read any post-trade comments from either of the GM's, etc.?

Florida has been losing trades quite a few times this year.

It's pretty obvious this trade was all about saving cash.

with just about a million left on a 5 million dollar salary, they kind of missed the boat there.

I know it's a million, but if savings were the key point, they could have moved him alot sooner

I thought McCabe would get more. Good pickup for the Rangers.

Florida, I'm sure you'll like Tim Kennedy. I'd be surprised if he had much trade value at all in this deal, but he belongs in the NHL and he can fit in really well on a bottom 6 line with bigger players that can compensate for his lack of size. Do you think Florida risks bringing him up through re-entry?

The cap situation of the team they are trading the player to factors into the timing.

That sounds like there were not many suitors for McCabe, given the early start to these rumors, the pre-deadline completion and the price, it sounds like the Rangers were in unilateral negotiations.

OK deal for Florida, the Rangers are not going anywhere unless Lundqvist impersonates Patrick Roy with or without McCabe.

You think his value increased from the lucrative $500,000 deal he got this year after not playing a game in the NHL.
