I was watching Palffy closely ever since my last pick all the way back at 321. I thought he and Balderis were the two best offense-only right wings available at the time.

He's the guy I was halfheartedly trying to trade up to get before. I think this is the highest he's ever gone, but given the upward pressure on both offensive players and modern players, I'm pleasantly surprised he was still around.

I was worried most about your team picking him, actually.

Since I had Palffy two drafts ago I've noticed some comments from Kings fans on here that really liked Palffy's all around game.

Too bad he left the NHL when he did, I would have liked to see him more in Pittsburgh.

I actually found a recent article about how Palffy is still playing professional hockey in Slovakia. And since most good Slovakians who aren't in the NHL prefer to play in other European countries where the pay is better, he is tearing the league a new one.

Not relevant to his value here, but interesting I think.

Indeed, I wanted him as well. Oh well.

Brave Canadian.. I PM'd you twice asking for a list, so TDMM is gonna pick some time soon.. if you're not gonna be around, I think I will stab someone.

Looking at the stats for this year, it looks like he retired at the end of last season (which makes sense, probably wanted to prolong his career until the Olympics). Probably could have played several more seasons in the NHL if he had wanted to.

That will really suck if he didn;t leave a list or won't be around.

So I assume no comments in the advice thread means my second line is awesome?

Great.

This pick might take awhile, as Nalyd selected the easy option of Lester Patrick, coach.

I have a long list of potential players I'm going through. If anyone wants this pick badly, feel free to shoot me a quick offer.

LoL, probably more to do with un-familiarity with them except for Palffy. I don't know much about Starshinov and Lewis except Starsh dominated the early Soviet leagues.

I hotlinked their profiles right there in the advice thread, FFS.

Lewis is a lightning-fast winger who is excellent defensively and provides a decent amount of playmaking from the wing.

Starsh is a tank, one of the more physical players in Soviet history and got a lot of goals from crowding the crease. He didn't dominate "early" Soviet leagues, he dominated the mid-late 60s, which was a much more talented generation than the 50s (mid-late 60s Soviets dominated Canadian Olympic teams, 50s Soviets often lost to them). He actually overlapped Kharlamov by a year or two. VMBM described him as "visually, a stronger, slower Mikhailov."

Anyway, my pick will probably come in 30-60 minutes. Blame Nalyd, not me.

Don't blame me for making the most logical choice available.

If you keep *****ing about people leaving lists and constantly PMing them to the point that it confuses people into making picks out of order like the time that happened already.. I am going to stab someone.

Leave a list with the GM of the team who picks right AFTER you do. After all, that is the person who will be waiting and waiting for you to pick! It is only logical.

My 1st tier must not be as exclusive as yours. It contains six coaches, not all of whom are drafted.

Choosing between Patrick and Shero was an incredibly tough decision. I think both can coach any team, and I admit I chose a guy I already have a solid bio for.

Yeah, I felt Patrick was great value with peers like Shero, Day and Irvin gone. In a 40 team draft, I think differences in coach quality will start to be a factor.

They always matter.

If they haven't been given much weight up until now, that is a problem.

Absolutely, Kennedy is ahead. Also Yanic Perreault (Don't mind if I name an undrafted here?)

definitely placed an emphasis on defence this time around - specifically the penalty kill, which is important when icing a shore-hall blueline.

Agreed, but I was only bringing up guys who were cotemporaries of Doug Jarvis.
