With all the 1sts being offered its become pretty apparent the strength of this upcoming draft is not very good.

He didn't say exactly what the return was. He said Mac could get more in a trade than Versteeg. If it does happen we would have three first round picks. Wow! We would have a lot of ammo for a huge blockbuster.

I do agree though Dreger has gotten a lot of things wrong lately. He totally screwed up on the return Kaberle got.

Imagine Atlanta offering a 1st and 2nd would be like Burke reacquiring Poni for a 1st and 2nd.

Gotta agree, I know the Nonis angle plays heavily, but he has been way off on some things lately. Not to mention, and I hate twitter rumours as much as the next guy, he rejected the certainty '***************' (I think it was him) had about Kabs waiving. He vehemently denied Kabs waiving, but not long after, Kabs was officially dealt. It may have been coincidence, or throwing people off the scent, but nonetheless, he was late to the Kaberle trade party.

If Burke can get him down to $9 mill over 3 years (or lower) I would be much more happy with that than a couple of picks.

A 1st and 2nd is an awfully darned good return.

If he asks for more than $3 than you have to consider trading him.

Worse case scenario, Kadri gets his spot, or the Leafs sign an FA.

3 first round picks in the 20-30 range. What are we waiting for?

Agreed I wasn't a big fan of MacArthur when we signed him but he has had a great year and has shown to be a gritty second line winger but if we want to really rebuild this team a 1st + a 2nd is a great offer to add to the arsenal of draft picks we have this year...too bad it is projected to be a weak draft but with (3) first rounders we should get some decent talent to build around and have a great core with Schenn, Kessel, Phaneuf, Colborne, Kadri, Aulie and (dare do I say) Reimer

Though that would be an unbelievable return, I really like the guy and I would be really sad to see a character guy like that go.

Depending on the team that offered 1st and 2nd, to be honest I'll take that for sure.

Mac is great for sure, but it would be great to actually sell high.

Imagine having 3 1st rounders, 2 2nd

BTW, I just watched Dreger segment, he said IF a team offered that then the leafs would be hard pressed not to accept.

i dont understand why a lot of people want to trade macarthur, we have a good thing going with him on the grabo line, the best thing thats happened to the leafs this season, why do u guys wana ruin that for a few draft picks that possibly may not work out?

Take it and run.

Kadri can replace MacArthur.

MacArthur was a free wallet signing and to flip him for a 1st and 2nd would be like buying 1st and 2nd round picks.

Having 3 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders gives Burke a lot of options. You have to look at that. Burke has to look at that.

Unless the pick is inside 1-15 I'd not do this, rather re sign him. We need players not draft picks at the moment, and it goes to show how weak this years draft is because everyone is throwing picks to get the player they want.

They never mentioned a 1st and 2nd being offered.

Dreger simply stated Leafs could get more for MacArthur than they did for Versteeg.

That could simply imply that a team lower than Philly in the standings could make a similar Versteeg type offer.

Say Mac gets a first rounder. I would do this because now you could definately lure a team to move a big player. What about Stamkos. If Tampa Bay has a limited cap and they have to move bodies would 3 firsts and Kadri be scratching the surface for Stamkos?
