I'd probably make the trade.

If the Leafs have 3 1sts, 2 2nds and Philly's 3rd, that's a lot of ammunition to do anything you want. Move up with some of the picks to get a better 1st round pick, or you can make a move for someone more established.

Its' easier to fill in Mac's spot on what should be the 2nd line than it is to fill in the 1st line Centre spot. Kadri, Colborne, etc., can step up and fill those shoes, but you need real assets to be able to deal for a 1 true 1st line pivot.

JUMP ON IT BURKIE!!! This will be a deal made closer to the deadline if Macarthur isnt signed but even a Versteeg type offer Id jump on, let alone a better one. If the leafs did that, added a guy like Laich as a FA, and the #1 centre and PMD we need, we could have a VERY GOOD team with TWO "A" list prospects and THREE 1st rounders. Just imagine.

Laich - #1 Centre - Kessel
Kulemin - Grabovski - Lupul
Brown - Bozak - Armstrong
Boyce - Brent - Orr

Phaneuf - Aulie
PMD - Schenn
Gunnerson - Komisarek (or replacement)

Reimer (If he can keep it up)
Monster

Then we'd have:

Colborne
Kadri
Gardiner
3 1sts
2 2nds

That is a solid franchise right there.

Here are some notable late 1sts from the last decade:

2000
#20 Frolov
#24 Boyes
#28 Justin Williams
#29 Kronwall

2001
#21 Armstrong
#32 Roy

2002
#24 Steen
#25 Ward

2003
#20 Burns
#23 Kesler
#24 Richards
#29 Perry
#33 Eriksson

2004
#20 Wolski
#21 Zajac
#23 Meszaros
#25 Schremo
#27 Schultz
#29 Green

2005
#24 Oshie
#25 Cogliano
#33 Neal
#35 Vlasic

2006
#22 Giroux
#23 Varlamov
#25 Berglund

2007
#24 Backlund
#26 Perron

2008
#20 Del Zotto
#26 Ennis
#27 Carlson

Why are people surprised to get a 1st for MacArthur. Versteeg got a 1st + 3rd.

I would do this trade and then package the 3 '1st' round picks; with the 2 '3rd' round picks and the '2nd' round pick for tavares.

Then we would have our 1st line centre set for the next decade.

You think they would take this? They are rebuilding after all.

Only if he can't be resigned. From some reports, the team and Mac's camp are about 500k or so apart so I wouldn't be shocked to see a deal done.

Depends on who's 1st and 2nd. Big difference from 1st overal and 30th pick.

I'd rather keep him though

Unless it's Edmonton's or Ottawa's pick

Im happy if we keep him, happy if he gets moved as long as the trade value is high like a 1st and a 2nd.

Then trade all of those mediocre assets for an impact player!

His basis is that Brian Burke wants MacArthur to accept a lower salary, so he gets dreger to throw out a phony rumor, make MacArthur (whose made it clear he wants to be a leaf) worry that he'll get traded, thus accepting a lower hit.

If I was Burke, I would wait and see what happens in the next three games before the deadline.

If the Leafs go 3-0-0 and are a few points out of a playoff spot then I would keep MacArthur and see what happens. The risk of keeping him even without signing him isn't too bad as he's a RFA.

If the team goes 0-3-0 and is 10 points out, then I would think you would have to seriously consider trading him if the return is a 1st and 2nd.

Welcome to Toronto: Where if you play well, we trade your ass!

No way this happens, MacArthur has had an amazing season and developed solid chemistry with 2 other players who are signed for a couple seasons. Re-sign him and go off to search for another guy. Really really shallow of Burke to trade his ass, don't mean to sound overly dramatic but if Burke does this after shoving Kaberle out the front door then I'm done cheering for this team for a bit.

Seriously why? MacArthur has had one of the best stories in the NHL and brings grit, work ethic and talent to the team and wants to sign with us for a reasonable price. 3M for a 2nd liner are you serious? Really really aggravating if Burke turns and says "LOLNO U GONE NOW I AM MASTR GM I GIV LAFFS STANLY CUP"

This is my thought. I am not that attached to firsts later than 20th in a weak draft year. There are a few players I really like that might be available for the right return and if they aren't, then the Leafs have three chances in the top 30 to find someone special.

If I was Mac I wouldn't settle for any less than $3 mill a year for 3 years seeing as that is how much Armstrong is making. It doesn't matter if Armstrong was an FA signing... so Mac can be.

I'd debate that. Too lazy to go through each post but any word on what team offered it? I could see a team like Tampa doing it.

Nobody he says the Leafs would likely take that or he thinks they should.

If it is LA and it is the Leafs 3rd. back in 2012, and a 1st. this year do it.

Rebuilding through the draft.

If we get rid of CMac, how would you feel dealing Grabo? Think we could net another first? Imagine, 4 1st round picks in one draft.. without having your own
