If the Leafs have 3 1sts, 2 2nds and Philly's 3rd, that's a lot of ammunition to do anything you want. Move up with some of the picks to get a better 1st round pick, or you can make a move for someone more established.
Yeh, why have a productive, young player who actually likes playing here when we can have a draft pick. How about we trade everyone.. I mean, can you imagine how many draft picks we could get????!!!!! Only on HFboards
Its' easier to fill in Mac's spot on what should be the 2nd line than it is to fill in the 1st line Centre spot. Kadri, Colborne, etc., can step up and fill those shoes, but you need real assets to be able to deal for a 1 true 1st line pivot.
JUMP ON IT BURKIE!!! This will be a deal made closer to the deadline if Macarthur isnt signed but even a Versteeg type offer Id jump on, let alone a better one. If the leafs did that, added a guy like Laich as a FA, and the #1 centre and PMD we need, we could have a VERY GOOD team with TWO "A" list prospects and THREE 1st rounders. Just imagine.
His basis is that Brian Burke wants MacArthur to accept a lower salary, so he gets dreger to throw out a phony rumor, make MacArthur (whose made it clear he wants to be a leaf) worry that he'll get traded, thus accepting a lower hit.
Welcome to Toronto: Where if you play well, we trade your ass!
No way this happens, MacArthur has had an amazing season and developed solid chemistry with 2 other players who are signed for a couple seasons. Re-sign him and go off to search for another guy. Really really shallow of Burke to trade his ass, don't mean to sound overly dramatic but if Burke does this after shoving Kaberle out the front door then I'm done cheering for this team for a bit.
Seriously why? MacArthur has had one of the best stories in the NHL and brings grit, work ethic and talent to the team and wants to sign with us for a reasonable price. 3M for a 2nd liner are you serious? Really really aggravating if Burke turns and says "LOLNO U GONE NOW I AM MASTR GM I GIV LAFFS STANLY CUP"
Im happy if we keep him, happy if he gets moved as long as the trade value is high like a 1st and a 2nd.
Then trade all of those mediocre assets for an impact player!
This is my thought. I am not that attached to firsts later than 20th in a weak draft year. There are a few players I really like that might be available for the right return and if they aren't, then the Leafs have three chances in the top 30 to find someone special.
