Macarthur more valuable then Versteeg?

He was on sportscenter just a few minutes ago and said that there is a LOT of interest in Clarke Macarthur and that the price is rising by the day due to the amount of interest. He said The Leafs may be able to get even more then they got for Versteeg possibly a 1st and 2nd.

If that happened the Leafs would have 5 picks in the top 60 6 picks in the top 90 and 13 picks overall. Including 3 1sts and 2 2nds.

If you want to go even further in the next 2 years we would have 4 1st rounders and likely 3 2nds (I think Kaberle re signs with bruins and we get their 2nd.)

If thats what teams are willing to pay for Macarthur we need to do it. Draft picks are like currency and for the Leafs to have 3 1st rounders and 2 2nds 13 picks overall that will open up A LOT of options for them at the draft in terms of trades because you never know who could be up for trade on draft day that could be when the next core peice is attainable and we'd have the assets to do it.

Thats without including prospects like Kadri, Colborne, Gardnier Blacker, Ross or Mckeeg

Isn't this years crop of picks supposed to be pretty weak? I heard it was, but I have no idea if that is still the consensus.

I would rather keep a young, relatively established player, over picks

Picks are ridiculously over rated.

Hopefully the 1st and/or 2nd would be as good as Mac, but doubtful.

Plus he has great chemistry with his line/team.

doesn't really matter if you have 5 picks in the top 60, 6 in the top 90 and 13 overall your lookin good no matter what.

Besides nobody really knows what those crop is like until they play in the NHL.

Clearly this is a weak draft according to some g.m's with all these 1st rounders being dealt. You wont see this action next season.

if it was in the 14-23ish range I'd do it, we can get a lot of depth in our prospects or we can easily trade into the top 10 and pick huberdeau, strome, murphy, etc.

what if thye center you think you need for this team is on the block? you'd be looking REAL good with all this picks and prospects acculated. I think thats whats happen I think we are pickin up assets to make a big deal down the road possibly on draft day

i think the top 10 or 15 picks are supposed to be really strong but apparently overall in terms of depth its a weaker year.

edit: nevermind, he's RFA, which means given the market this year a 1st could actually make sense.

proven player>draft picks. like some one mentioned above, draft picks are overrated especially on hf.

Honestly, he has had his breakout season and appears to love playing in Toronto. Isn't a mid twenties Top 6 RFA exactly what Toronto needs?

I cannot for the life of me understand why Burke isn't talking a multi-year contract with him.

I personally would want MacArthur over Versteeg based on their play this season. It would be a really good idea for Toronto to keep this guy around, they made the right move by shipping Versteeg out to Philly.

They are in the midst of contract talks right now. It is believed Mac wants 3 years / $3M per.

.

Im pretty sure he is. But that doesnt mean TMac will just sign on the dotted line. His agent is surely trying to get a hefty raise, or may just be telling TMac to hold off until summer

i wish draft picks wasnt invovled just straight up roster players. theres like 50/50 chance a worse team gets a "superstar" or a good team gets a gem in the later rounds.

yeah id rather keep him as well. his chemistry, plus his age, plus being an RFA, and his style of play, id rather keep him then trade him for more picks in a draft that is one of the weaker in recent history
