How many of you guys would trade Penner for Kadri + Phi 1st this year?

It's pretty crazy, but the Leafs are only 4 points out now and playing very well...they are scoring, getting good goaltending, and their best players are playing very well recently. I have this feeling that since Burke has said he wants to make the playoffs next year that he may pull the trigger at the deadline for a player that can help for the next 5+ years while still help this year as well.

Burke is known for quick, impulse moves whenever he feels the need, so something could happen, just may or may not be with the Oilers.

This is along the lines that I was thinking. Fills to god awful holes in our line up.

Pretty much, frankly if you're going to move Hemsky in division, you have to make that division rival pay through the nose, otherwise you're just making things tougher for yourself.

Kadri = Gagner

We don't need another 2nd line C.

See the thing is, I'm not sure about Kadri.

The guy doesn't have enough hockey sense for my liking, and if I'm completely honest, projects to be a 2nd line C imo.

Would you consider Gardiner + McKegg + Phi/Tor 1st?

Imagine a foundation 1st line of Hall - Schenn - Eberle. HOLY ****.
Hall - Schenn - Eberle
Whitney - Larsen

I'm not a big fan of Kadri. If Penner gets dealt, size should be coming back.

See that's the thing, the above posters think he is going to equal Gagner or at best a 2C, but I envision him as a NHL winger not a centre. The kid is much quicker than Gagner and is a better pure scorer than Gagner as well. They both can dangle and all that, I just think Gagner is much more of a playmaker and we could use a scorer.

Also, Kadri plays with far more grit and physicality than Gagner as well.

As for the other proposal, I'm not really sold on Mckegg, even though he is having a good season. I think Kadri brings something we don't necessarily have a lot of in our system, but I think we have a McKegg and puck mover similar to Gardiner already, but that's jmo.

Much faster, grittier, more physical, and more of a goal scorer IMO. I see him being a winger in the NHL way before a centre, so he could fit well.

I guess I am one of the few guys who doesn't hate Kadri because of all the arguments b/w Leaf and Oiler fans over MPS vs. Kadri after the draft

Sounds a lot like Gilbert Brule to me. Same 10cent brain imo.

these 5 would be middle of the pack starters in the NHL. Hardly a line that will scare a team.

His hockey IQ is definitely in question, won't deny that. He's a ppg rookie in the AHL this year, so I guess we will need to see him in the NHL next year to really get a feel for how well he will translate to the NHL game.

Either way, GO MINNY!!! Hopefully the Kings lose, get really desperate, and give us a massive return.

I've disliked Kadri since his performance at the WJC. Dumb penalties and missed a lot of opportunities. Plus I was always pissed when he had the puck and not #4 or Ebs.

But yeah, people say Lombardi doesn't have pressure to win the cup this year but I guarantee there's pressure to at least make the playoffs.

Ya, if he misses the playoffs this year, he will have 5 years under his belt going into next season. IMO, if they don't do anything this year he may only have 1 year next year to get it on track or else ownership will be evaluating his lack of performance over 6 years and questioning whether he will ever be able to get them over the hump.

I've danced between deal Hemsky or Penner or keeping both in the lead up to this deadline, right now I'm at the point where I'd rather keep them. Up front we don't need another young guy trying to learn the game.

We've got two line that I really like moving forward with

Hall-Horcoff-Eberle
Jones-Gagner-Paajarvi

Put the other top 9 forwards together and you get Omark-Penner-Hemsky, which as a combo I really like.

Go out and make a simple trade to get a guy like Smithson from the Preds and for the most part you've the the set up for a nice group of forwards.

Hall-Horcoff-Eberle
Omark-Penner-Hemsky
Jones-Gagner-MPS
Hartikainen-Smithson-Reddox
Fraser

... and then use the top 2 pick to get Larsson.

Whitney-Larsson
Smid-Gilbert
Peckham-Petry
Foster

I think Burke has Schenn as an untouchable. But I may be wrong.
