We needed Kovalev tonight. He would have taken at least 50% of the hate directed at Scott Gomez. With Kovalev and Gomez on the same team HF boards would crash daily.
Nah, Martin's getting fed his lunch tonight, too...he's taking half the hate.
Because contrary to popular belief, Gomez is actually a good player, and contrary to popular believe, Pools-DD-White isn't the shiz. In fact, those three guys are vulnerable defensively and they need to be constantly sheltered. This isn't suprising (they are the fourth line for a reason), but it seems like it's sacrilege for some odd reason.
Well, no, I guess it's understandable, with #blamegomes having become the national hashtag, and the Church of Desharnais having their pow-wow on l'Antichambre.
Very compelling argument backed up without any stats MATHman.
So a) Gomez is *actually* a good player and b) DD and other young players are vulnerable defensively, more so than Mr. Scott Gomez.
So what exactly makes him a good player? Cause he won the Calder trophy and two Stanley Cups nearly a decade ago?
Is it the so-called intangibles?
Tell me, how is that a second line center, who's given nearly 20 mins per game, has only 30 points in 60 games?
How is it that out of 844 players in the NHL , Gomez is currently 824th (!) among the league's worst plus minus at -18. He's tied with James Wisnewski, who was a -18 in 32 games on an awful Islanders team.
I don't understand people bashing Auld. He was weak on the 2nd goal, but I don't think price would have stopped the 1st and the 3rd either. Personally, I would have stuck with him even after the 3rd goal. You might as well start with Price if you're going to pull your backup after 1 bad goal...
Gomez is easily having the worst season of his career. It happens to a player or two on each team every season. Wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce back next season.

It's like blaming Hammer...not his fault he played 29 minutes. Just like it's not Auld's fault he got the start.

No no.. Gomez is just a slow starter. He will bring his A-game soon!
If not for Price and his big saves there would be no need to bash Martin for his poor coaching at the end. This team win or lose, has very rarely put together a solid 60 minute effort without some crazy lapses and severely stupid penalties (Mara and Wiz tonight). The team is just not consistent enough for 60 minutes. Markov and Gorges would help the cause but things were more or less the same when they were in the lineup. Martin is having the same results as Carbo, I doubt if Guy Boucher could have done any better. The coach is not always the problem, but always an easy scapegoat.

The blame lies elsewhere....
I don't get the blame on Hammer. The guy has to play half of the game, after a long trip and being one of the oldest guy of the team, still manage to get 2 assists and +/- at 0.. and people still blame him.

Not saying that it was his fault that we lost tonight but he didn't help the team win either.
Btw, if you are talking about Price being our whipping boy last year, you clearly haven't been here. Except from some haters, everyone here got his back last season.
