Interesting you say this, as he is already reminding me of a Red Wing-type selection.

People who watch him regularly - Is there any player NHL wise that Hertl compares too?

Seems he has similar size to Jaskin, but is a much smoother skater.

Tomas Hertl - HC Slavia Praha, Czech (Extraliga)

I never heard about him but I saw stats and he have 15 pts in the Czech div. 1 !! He is 30th scorer of the league and he is eligible in 2012 !

I think he deserve a spot in the first or second round ? ...

I never saw him play so ... Maybe anyone know him ?

Bump.

How is a kid his age performing this well in a top men's league, and escaping all the hype? Is there some glaring weakness that discredits his NHL viability? It was not long ago. That kids were regularly drafted out of the Czech league in the first round. That's lost a lot of luster but there is always a chance for resurgence.

Yeah, I don't get it, his numbers are great, good size, every report I hear and every clip I see he seems great and still people don't even think he's second round worthy. What's up with that? Does he kill puppies when he's off ice?

In my eyes is Hertl very underrated. I actually think he is better than Faksa right now but it just my opinion, I´m not an expert. He´s playing with men (and I don´t think our Czech league is THAT bad like this is pointless) plus he is in a crappy team which is on the 12th place (of 14 teams). It´s not like somebody´s helping him to get that many points, he managed to get to second line out of fourth line just by himself and not accidentally. Like it was said, last player under18 in Czech league that had this many points was Hudler, not even players like Havlat, Michalek, Frolik or Tlusty had this kind of pace in his age, so I think it must mean something. And if nobody notice that till June, I think one team will have a huge steal in the second round.

Well right now, he's injured. But, the only knock I heard was his skating. It's okay, not great. But i really like the kid.

Definitely an intriguing prospect and I have to agree with the poster who referred to him as a red wing pick. As long as his skating isn't atrocious, he should be a worthy second round pick as it's something that can be improved.

What's his current injury?

Hertl has better stride and his skating doesn´t look awkward as in Jaskin´s case but Hertl´s foot speed is maybe worse than Jaskin´s.

It's something with shoulder. But he's already training and should be fine for the WJC.

Any video of this kid?

The habs have picked a few Czech centers before. Plekanec and now Pribyl. I like how they're working out, and would like another one, please.

A couple of big hits, too. Wasn't afraid to screen the goalie, and had some solid redirects. Made a couple of nifty passes, as well. Really seems to protect the puck very well, and looks a lot bigger than he's listed.

Extremely difficult game to scout as Denmark was completely out classed. Will he protect the puck as well against the likes of Jenner and Watson? Will he be so willing to stand in front of the net when he has to go against Tinordi and Johns? How will be look in his own zone when he actually has to set foot in it?

We will find out this week!

nice hands displayed too, but the US gave him way too much time in the middle of the ice.

US looks poor this year, shockingly as I thought they'd push for Gold....teams looks like it will be good next year though.

Glad I get to see Hertl a few more times, pretty good player, definately a top 90 pick from limited viewings.

Skills are there, and passion was there too.

I really hope the Blues take this kid. He plays with Jaskin, and his last name is really close to mine. lol

I've been impressed with the skill level and effort. Could be a good 2nd liner, maybe more if given the right situation.

Big, but looks like a child. That's a good thing. He's still going to grow and mature.

I love his play on the boards and in front of the net. Good on the back check.

Reminds me a bit of big Czech center Martin Hanzal.

We really like him and have him ranked #22 as of December 15th. He's not really doing anything to drop his stock either at the WJC.

Outside the Canada game he has looked great so far in this tournament. He's right up there with Faksa as the best player to come out of CZE for this year's draft.

I am still amazed at the little recognition that Hertl is getting. Great play for the Czech goal last night, and should've had two assists if Jaškin had buried that one timer in the slot.

He's a great, if unspectacular centre, and if given time to develop, could become a very useful 2nd/3rd line centre in the NHL.

He should be moving onto the map with this sort of showing. Good for him, he's got an interesting set of skills and seems to have a willingness to initiate physically.

Does anyone know where I might find game by game stats for him? Curious to see what kind of consistency he has in terms of production.
