Playoff Odds Tracking / Who to Root For

EDITED FOR 2/4:

Yesterday went almost perfect for the Kings, except for a big win for Calgary:

* Flames beat the Thrashers regulation. Currently tied in points with the Kings but the Kings win the games in hand 1st tiebreak and are 4 regulation wins ahead (2nd tiebreak). Remember that shootout wins don't count in the 2nd tiebreak scenario.

* Wild beat the Avs in regulation.

* Flyers beat the Preds in regulation.

* Bruins beat the Stars in regulation.

More info here: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/W...fic/Kings.html. Overall the Kings saw a 0.26% increase in their playoff hopes yesterday according to the site's formula.

For 2/4 we want:

* Main Event: Need Chicago to lose to Vancouver. A Chicago loss leaves them tied with the Kings in points and games played (1st tiebreak), but Chicago will stay ahead even though they have one less win, because SO wins don't count - therefore Chicago would have 24 regulation wins to 23 for the Kings.

* We want Edmonton to beat St. Louis in reg.

* Statistically we want Detroit to beat Columbus in regulation, but it's a matter of "do you think the Kings can catch Detroit?" and "do you think Columbus is a threat?". I'll be pulling for the Wings just to keep Columbus down below. They're only 7 points back in this wacky conference.

Just in case, today 2/3/11 you have:

* Thrashers over the Flames in regulation.

* Regulation loss for either the Avalanche or Wild, doesn't matter who, just no loser point for either.

* Flyers over the Preds in regulation.

* Bruins over the Stars in regulation.

If no interest, no worries.
Probably could join the "Other Games Around The League" thread, no? I like the idea, though.

I thought about that and you are most definitely right. I just thought it would be cool to have a daily post where the info is right there in the first post.....easy.

The cool thing is I can actually watch a few games today and be able to root for a team. There were so many western conference battles going on, and with the standings so tight, you couldn't really cheer for a team. Definitely pulling for the Thrash, Flyers, and Bruins tonight.

I would not worry to much about the other games. The Kings will make the playoffs as cream always rises to the top and you know we have an abundance of Cream (puffs) on the team.

"Clink" Kings take the 7th spot, lose in the first round in 6 "Clunk".

If you want to get down to details and percentages, I've always turned to this site to see who we should be rooting for:

Amen. Thrashers, Avs or Wild, Flyers and Bruins... all in regulation, please.

I root for whatever team helps the Kings make the playoffs. Even if that means rooting for the Ducks from time to time.

The only rooting I'll do for the Ducks is for them to LOSE...and MISS the playoffs entirely...

Boston is up 4-0 over the Stars after one period. That looks promising!

Dallas looked utterly shellshocked about 30 seconds into that one. What a great game that has been so far.

Tomorrow is easy.

We want:

Wings > Jackets
Oilers > Blues
Canucks > Hawks

Canucks beating Hawks is the biggest one. Hopefully they can take them down for once.

Jackets and Blues losing would distance us from them, so we have less teams to battle.

The game Saturday against the Flames is huge. Need at least a point out of that one.

We need 2.

If we got 3 points out of the Pitt, Philly, and Washington swing I would be ecstatic.

I think we have a better chance of getting 3 points from Pitt/Philly/Wsh, than getting 2 points from Calgary.

The Kings haven't gotten a single point in Calgary in six years.

I think that is an overrated stat

Also, we had never beaten Tampa Bay At Staples, ever, and we beat them.

Big help for the Kings by the Canucks winning in regulation tonight.

Tomorrow's group to root for: Kings, Bruins, Wings, Wild, Avs, Flyers and Oilers... whew.

One of the nights where I'm actually bummed FSN is doing the Calgary game. It's a HNIC game but it'll be blacked out in LA.

How big is the Kings game? a 15% swing according to sportsclubstats. A win in regulation or OT and the Kings playoff chances jump to 73%. A loss and it drops to 58%.
