1996-2006 uniforms

Anyone else love these?

Overall I think I prefer the royal blue jerseys, but these are a very close second. I really love the logo too.

When I first started liking this team it was soon after the uniform switch (and after the Whalers had officially moved to Carolina) to these, so they'll mean more to me than I'd say most Sabres fans. The blue & gold are iconic and the origins, but I'll always love the Angry Goat Head. But we'll leave it at that. And yes, I'll agree that everything and anything was better than the slug...except for maybe the red butterknife alternates. Yuck.

My favorite Sabres jersey of all time is the red butterknives jersey. It just struck a chord.

Besides the alt jersey of the Goathead era, nothing compares to the vintage Sabres unis.

I think the logo is underrated but I didn't like the uniforms as a whole.

I despise the red thirds.

Those white jerseys are and will always be my favorite Sabres jerseys ever. I don't mind the new colors, but I how I wish we would've won the Cup in 2006 so they would've kept those uniforms.

I didn't like the collar or the "BUFFALO" text on the bottom of the red jerseys, but other than that I loved them. I wish we would bring back the black jerseys as a third though.

I don't mind the logo, but those colors are just so generic.

I have a blank black goathead jersey in perfect condition if you are interested. Got it as a gift several yrs ago, wore it maybe 6 times.

Most successful jersey for the Sabres in terms of on-ice results? Not crazy to say so, I think.

My preferences in order will always be:

1. Original White home (1970-1996)
2. White home (Goathead) (1996-2006)
3. Original Blue road (1970-1996)
4. Blue home (Slug) (2006-2010)
5. Black road (Goathead) (1996-2006)

I hated the red butter-knives 3rd jersey and the white home jerseys of the slug era. I'm also not a big admirer of the current 40th anniversary 3rd jerseys.

No.

The Goathead jerseys automatically go to the bottom of the all-time list, simply because the color scheme was totally wrong. Red and black are completely unimaginative colors for a sports team, and the Sabres already had perfectly good colors. Red and black are not Buffalo Sabres colors.

The black jerseys are the worst all-time Sabres jersey, and the red alternates are right behind them.

The Slug wasn't a good logo, but at least those uniforms were in the right color range.

More successful than the French Connection teams of the 70s?

The Goathead jerseys were the jerseys of the Rigas era: scandal, bankruptcy, league take-over, relocation rumors. Good riddance to that era.

As others stated, I started watching the sabres in '94 ish (Empire wasnt available in my town, saw more NYR's than Sabres... :joshjull:.
So the AGH is the one of those nostalgic jersey's for me.

I like the current jerseys, followed by the AGH. The slug, yuck. The current, no real connection with...

If the dates in the title are correct, I was 7 when the AGH came into existence. Even though I've always associated "Sabres" with the blue&gold originals, that was the jersey I became a real fan to, so it'll always have a special place.

Pegula is an old-time Sabres fan who fell in love with the French Connection Sabres of the late 70s.

I highly doubt he is going to do anything to stray much from the original recipe. If anything, he might change the current unis to make them more like the originals.

I also don't think that Pegula is the type of owner to change the uniforms every five years or so as a cynical business move. You know, just changing them for the short-term infusion of cash from the boost in merchandise sales.

I wouldn't be surprised if this really happened.

I would also be very happy if that happened.

Original Jerseys- 26 seasons, 10 playoff rounds won.
Goathead era- 9 seasons, 9 playoff rounds won.

When I think original jerseys, I think the teams of my childhood in the 80's and 90's that lost in the first round every year. Back then there were less teams and 4 out of 5 teams in each division made the playoffs, so a first round exit then is the equivalent of 9th or 10th place today.

When they switched to the Goathead, they won the division and beat Ottawa in the first round the first year, went to the conference finals the second year, and went to the cup finals the third year. I will always associate the Goatheads with success for that reason.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as a lot of people here.

I thought those jerseys were the coolest things ever back in the day. They are probably one of the main reasons why I first became a Sabres fan.
