Brule hasn't evolved his game to the NHL style. It worked for him in junior because of smaller/weaker opposition. If he was 6'4 230lbs he'd be a 40-40 player in the NHL. I think if he could reinvent his game to that of a agitator/checking winger then he'd make for a pretty good 3rd liner. Not every high draft pick can be a star, roleplayers are just as important too.

Right, there is always that transition period where a guy goes from declared bust to successful niche player, loose example would be Manny Malhotra who never lived up to his draft position but ultimately became a third liner with loads of speed and faceoff ability.

Brule is skilled and determined enough to make that kind of transition but I don't see it yet and he seems to have trouble staying healthy. He plays big but he is small, just like you said, he plays a Clowe game in a Giroux body (maybe not the best example because he bangs bodies effectively). He could be like a suped up Derek Dorsett or something. I don't see a team trading for him though, he's not a bankable role player at the moment and it's not like he (or someone like him) won't be on the market in the near future.
