Gillis says "no"

VANCOUVER The Vancouver Canucks have already made one phone call on Marty Reasoner, didn't like what the Florida Panthers had to say but will call again before Monday's National Hockey League trade deadline.

Thread worthy. Yes it will be interesting to see what happens at trade, but that part can go in the trade thread.

I would like to pick up on the great attitude the team got from Gillis down to the players. As discussed in the article by Henrik, it is no longer a discussion about key players or key roles any more. The same thing is reflected at this board too, it is about getting a 4th line working and that is kind of a rather ok problem when one thinks about the the options, what other teams has to deal with.

Yeah I don't like the sounds of this either. Weren't we in a great position to do well last year as well when all we did was get Alberts?

We lost to a strong Chicago team last year, that was profitting from Kane and Toews having ELC and played well. Do you think trading assets last year was going to make the difference?

And last year at this time we were 1st in our division but 4th in points in the conference if I remember correctly.

Not the same scenario at all, and there is this little thing called the salary cap as well.

We are leading the league in points; I will trust Gillis' judgement on what to do. And will try not to use hindsight later.

In the end can we really trust the Hodgson, Oreskovich, Glass, Volpatti, Tambellini's of the world? All cup winner have 4th lines who aren;t just there to take up space - they can actually accomplish something on the ice.

I am happy Hodgson is getting time with Vancouver i think it is good for his development and i like the idea of a center with some skill on the 4th line. However when you look at his AHL numbers they are not very impressive, maybe he is not quite ready for the spotlight. Couple that with the inexperienced Oreskovich on the wing and there is room for a 4th line player who fills a role. Gillis is doing the right thing building the organization to compete year after year, as much as our fans want to do everything to win this year.

Not sure if this impacts Florida trading Reasoner but Olesz out for the season, Higgins injured as well...or it could be posturing

A big no thanks to Chris Neil. All season we have had Kesler and Burrows and for the most part Glass/Oreskovich be disciplined. Neil is as undisciplined as they come and coming from a losing team and atmosphere. A hearty no thank you.

OP - the article by Iain MacIntyre from the Vancouver Sun that you posted in its entirety says Copyright (c) The Vancouver Sun at the bottom.

The Sun, and other news outlets with online content, derive revenue from advertising based on the number of page views and clicks. Posting the entire article here without any attribution to Iain MacIntyre or The Vancouver Sun goes way beyond fair use, infringes upon their copyright and deprives them of advertising revenue.

If you are going to post articles from other sources, the accepted practice is to post a link, state the source and then post (in quote tags) excerpts from the source material (which at that point you are welcome to comment on).
