If Staal comes back Tuesday who sits?

Unless we trade for Richards I really don't see Gilroy being moved as the return would be so minimal unless he is part of a package. Staal is supposedly going to be available for Tuesday, who is the odd man out?

I would say Gilroy should sit IMO as Eminger has played hard, scored a goal vs Washington and is playing the physical game he demonstrated earlier in the season. However Torts has been giving Gilroy more ice time in these past 2 games without Staal, Gilroy is a better skater (as opposed to having McCabe and Eminger together), and Torts seems to like his game as of late. So do you think Torts keeps Gilroy in?

Staal-Girardi
McDonagh-Sauer
McCabe-Eminger

Thats what I would like to see on Tuesday as long as we don't make a trade involving a d-man.

Thoughts? This should be cut and dry for Eminger, but I just have this weird feeling Eminger sits again for no real reason.

Whoever is not performing between Eminger and Gilroy. If Eminger sucks, play Gilroy; If Gilroy sucks, play Eminger.

I tend to agree... but there is really no good reason for him to stay in the lineup.

He doesn't kill penalties, he doesn't play on the PP, he is not physical, and offers nothing whereas Eminger is physical and can kill penalties. I just can't understand why Torts would choose Gilroy, but I know you are right.

Gilroy sits, it's not even a question. Then again, when you're dealing with the utter stupidity that is the New York Rangers...

And thats what is so frustrating with this team. Sometimes these things are so clear to almost everyone on here, yet Torts does the complete opposite as to almost challenge logic.

that's my hope. If Gilroy is around I hope he sits and Eminger plays and if they make a deal for a rental Dman Eminger hits the bench

At least Torts doesn't put Boogaard or Newbury with Gaborik.
Remember Isbister with Jagr?

But Izzy had such good hands around the net! And who could forget his breakaways that he just couldn't finish, Isbister was Michal Grosek 2.0.

Just like the other thread with "Arty." How come he's allowed slack when it's his second season while Gilroy gets none (and according to many, defense is the more difficult position to play and some guys need more time than others to adapt). He's on the plus side and doesn't take penalties. Personally, I'd rather see Gilroy get more time on the ice than McCabe. The Rangers power play suffers because they have a hard time setting it up, and when the do, they need to move the puck around quicker.
Kaberle was a different story (3 yrs younger, and much more productive considering he's only played in 800 + games compared to McCabe).

McCabe actually shoots and showed today he has the ability to keep the puck in the zone, something many of the guys playing the point have a real hard time doing on the PP. Eminger was defintely guilty of taking bad penalties earlier this season and I think that is what really got him in the doghouse, he had one questionable hit today but other than that he he was solid in the zone. Gilroy is not physical and really doesn't create much offense. As we saw today, Girardi was guilty of pinching too much, Gilroy worries me that he will get caught sooner or later and it will cost us. Eminger is much less likely to pinch, and that is another key reason I would rather see him play.

This shouldn't be up for discussion. By far Gilroy is the one who should sit. He continues to play soft hockey. Always unable to contain forwards along the boards and near the net. Without his skating this guy would be a career minor leaguer. He left Sauer hanging almost all game on the back end.

It shouldn't be up for debate, but do you really think Gilroy gets scratched? I don't, I know he should be but something tells me Torts is going to play him unless he is traded, which as much as I wouldn't mind happening, I don't see it.

I'm not sure why everyone is so set in stone that Eminger is a MUCH better option than Gilroy.

I can't imagine how anyone watches Eminger play and doesn't see a pro level game. Gilroy doesn't play an NHL level game, in any zone, with or without the puck, PP or PK.
