The Tinordi + 1st pick from the Habs (which I thought was ridiculous) is actually not worse than that. It's pretty crazy.

Ryan White on the move???

On verra. 19 minutes...

Yep, looks like White has been traded/sent down.

AHL for cap space makes more sense than trade. Couldn't get much more than a 6th for White.

Can anyone explain what happened with the "trade" Penner to MTL?

LeBrun picked up a tweet from a fake Kypreos account and re-tweeted it.

Guys... 30 goal power forwards don't come cheap. If you're serious about acquiring them, then you have to give to get. If you're giving up nothing but futures for them, you're going to be sacrificing some pretty nice futures there.

Now, if Edmonton chose this package over Tinordi/1st Round Pick, then I don't blame Gauthier for not going beyond Tinordi/1st Round Pick.

But if we acquired Penner for Tinordi/1st Round Pick, I'd consider that a fair value trade for a 30 goal power forward.

If Versteeg gets a 1st and a 3rd, then Penner is worth a 1st and a good prospect.

Partisans: vous avez sous les yeux -- c'est moi qui l'ai -- le CH qui se battra jusqu'à la fin de la saison. Avec des rappels de Hamilton.

Contender's can afford to overpay...we are not in the same territory as the Kings or Flyers.

OK, so Teubert's ceiling is a 4th/5th defenceman, the 1st rounder will probably be 20th. Then a conditional 3rd.

It's not that bad from the Kings perspective.

Ryan White not on the ice at Habs practice... according to Francois Gagnon and Louie Jean..

I assume he's being sent down.

It's funny, Habs fans want these power forwards, but are unwilling to pay for them...

LOL @ throwing Palushaj and Kostitsyn in every deal.

Another year, another disappointment. Teams around us got better (I'm not talking about only today) and what did we do? Absolutely nothing.

How is Penner a 30 goal scorer? He's hit it once in his career and isn't on pace to do so again. I guess we've got 48 goal scorer Brian Gionta. He's about to go on a streak that gets us to the top of the conference.

JayBee - The quote function isn't working for me for some reason, but I will say that I totally agree with you.

I hope that none of the dozens of people balking at the idea of acquiring Penner for Tinordi/1st Round Pick will turn around and whine if Gauthier does nothing.

Because like it or not folks, that is the sort of asking price for good Top Six forwards in today's NHL.

Just look at the Fisher and Versteeg trades before it.

MattKOTW - Your Gionta comparison is complete crap. Gionta didn't score 40 plus goals last year, he did it several years ago, and hasn't come close since. Penner is only one year removed from a 30 goal season, and he has over 20 goals this year with about a quarter of the season left to play, and while playing on one of the worst teams in the NHL.

It's perfectly legitimate to call Penner a 30 goal power forward.

No, but I would of liked adding a guy like Konopka or Crombeen...

Habs weren't gonna be able to add to their top 6 without paying significantly and significantly isn't AK46 + Weber

The major problem is that if we pay big, we pretty much don't have enough depth in our farms.. So we might not be screwed tommorow, but we would in the next few years.

or if you want a top 6 forward, and don't want to give up picks/prospects since your team already has a pretty weak farm then you just sign someone in the offseason..

Hoarding all these draft picks means nothing when you can't draft top flight players.
