This move is pointless.
How so? MDZ hasn't been up to scratch and this move allows him to go to the Pack and continue to develop his game. At the same time it gives the Rangers a better look on the PP and IMO ups the chance that they make the playoffs. Even though just making the playoffs isn't a big thing for some fans, I reckon it's a big thing both for the club and the players.

Your waisting your time arguing. There are people who think if your not the cup favorite theres no point in being competitive because 8th seed teams don't make it to the stanley cup finals. He probably would rather be an islanders fan right now because they are going to get a top 5 pick.

McCabe deal... MEH. We gave up nothing, but at this point in his career, we didn't get much, either.

And someone in the first few pages said: "hopefully we can lock him up long term". That was a funny post.

McCabe is pretty much done.. so to me, it's a pointless move. I don't get how people are calling Sather a genius for this. The dude is 35 and isn't good anymore. What's the point?

If Sather pulls out Richards, then we'll talk.

Careful.

Gaborik is immune to criticism around here.

Rangers just announced Glen Sather would not conduct a conference call with media to discuss McCabe trade. Means he's still working.

Strictly from a transaction standpoint, not taking into account what the implications are on our cap and other issues, this is a pretty good deal.

3rd round pick for PP help.

If they indeed want Richards, however, McCabe can't be resigned.

I have myself wondering how we are going to keep our core players. I really hope we don't lose any of our core guys.

The one thing I've learned from this board is that Sather doesn't work, he just goes fishing....

Confirmed that Bryan McCabe is expected to play for #NYR against Tampa Bay tomorrow afternoon. Don't know his uniform number yet.

if we get richards imo that means drury is gone. which i think frees up enough money.

Yeah, still don't know if that was a joke or not. Pretty funny though. Long term deal for a 35 year old.

Love? A bit strong perhaps? I mean we got the rental services of an average veteran Dman for a middle round pick and a prospect we couldn't play this year. Seems like a fair trade to me.

In Florida Bryan McCabe wore number 24, but here with #NYR that number is all about Ryan Callahan...so McCabe will wear No. 28

Avoiding the penalty is not putting players on LTI only to have the bonuses count towards the 2011-12 cap which is what some fans and media are advocating.

I'd bet money that If we manage to trade for Richards, that DZ will be going the other way.

i hate sather but let the guy do his job. im sure he has thought about this

having a cap penalty means that not only would sather be doing a bad job but is also incompetent. if that happens i will be the first person to say good job reporting it.

bottom line, mccabe is better than girl roy and mdz and with eminger, would make a decent 3rd pairing. hes 35 and a shell of his former self but considering the price, not terrible. and he can play top 4r minutes until staalzies boo boo goes away.

his pp shot cant hurt any worse than what weve been doing which is a steaming pile of awfulness.

for kennedy and a 3rd, seems like a no brainer to me. and good for kennedy, maybe he gets his shot now. the 3rd in this years draft isnt anything to cry about.

odds are mccabe returns to fla next season anyway. hes got a lot of miles on him so hes not a option for more than this season.

well done slats.

one last note, im kinda creeped out by any player who has the nyr as the only team hell waive his ntc for. see, to me, thats really weird.

Eh. Some people are way, way too happy about this. McCabe isn't much of an acquisition. Granted, they didn't give up a lot (I'm really glad they used a 3rd and not one of the 2nd round picks) they didn't get much either. This sounds like Kotalik part 2 to me - a good slap shot and not much else.

I really hope Kennedy gets some time in the NHL as a result of this trade though - he's a good young grinder with a lot of courage and I always kind of felt bad about the team bringing up White, who was useless, instead of him.

If they trade MDZ for Richards they better have a signed, notarized agreement that he will resign here. If MDZ is lost for a concussed player who isn't going to resign I am going to freak out. MDZ is a key piece for the future of this team even with the slump he's in now. He's a young PMD who has already shown that he can make plays at this level. There are not many guys like that in the league.
