Well, I am probably not going to be posting on these boards in 10 years, so it's not like someone's gonna disprove me on that one.

Name me one player in the NHL other than Crosby or the Sedin twins who doesn't have "consistancy [sic] issues."

Your point is well taken, but as to your actual question, Lidstrom and Chara come to mind and I'm sure there are others who don't have lack of consistency issues.

He's only getting paid 1.8m. Even at his production, that's a freaking bargain.

Marleau always has consistency issues but that doesn't mean you dump the player.

Thornton was a player before this season that didn't have consistency problems. I think if I remember correctly from earlier this season, his longest pointless streak since the lockout was 4 games.

Its not that seto is inconsistent, I could deal with a marleau type of inconsistent where it happens for at max 10 games. But seto even in his 30 goal season went stretches of 20+ games where he would be getting 5 points in that span

That's the best time to trade a commodity.

GMs irrationally overvalue the recent past just like forum posters I bet. If NHL player markets are anything like other markets, any player that has been playing poor recently will not get what he is truly worth, and any player that has been playing well recently will get more than what he is truly worth.

The way I see it, a smart GM will do whatever the opposite of his vocal fan base wants him to do with a player, as the emotional reaction of his fans represents the evaluation biases he should be exploiting in other GMs.

He's restricted at the end of the year. And his next contract isn't going to be substantially larger than this one. Probably another one year deal around 2 mil. When there's about 4.5 mil coming off the blue line alone, I think you can spare some to re-sign a 24 year old that is still growing as a player and getting better.

And when Marleau was Setoguchi's age, he was having the same problems for the same length of time. Seto will likely improve as well in this regard. If he was making somewhere around 3 mil or more, I'd agree with looking for a new home for him but at his rate, I'll take the bad with the good for now.

Difference being when marleau was setos age, he was still putting up 50+ points every single season, not 30+ points.

And Marleau was also paid better than Setoguchi is.
