Daniel Alfredsson, worst captain or worstest captain?
#1 He singlehandedly turned a cup contender into a basement dweller.
#2 He said he loved the city yet he greedily took money that could have been used to acquire a top-notch free-agent.
#3 His lack of enthusiasm for the game of hockey is perhaps his worst quality, spending time with his wife and children instead of spending time refining his game.
#4 He tried to murder rival captain Scott Neidermayer during the Stanley Cup finals by launching a puck at his head. Many people saw this of some manner of hate crime as Mr. Niedermayer is a strong supporter of various environmental initiatives
#5 Alfredsson also has a dreadful addiction to nachos and other nacho flavored snacks.
This being said, I shall refuse to participate in discussion within this forum until the time that this monster is traded.
I wonder if we could move this to the main board and call it the HF-Hate-On. Take the teams most appreciated player and rip em to shreds.
Plays the most minutes on the team. That is about all you need to know right there.
If you are too conservative to accept a player that takes risks while also providing incredible rewards. I really feel sorry for you. That's what hockey is all about, I want to see excitement skill and confidence out there.
The things that he is bad at, can be taught. The things that he is good at, Brian Lee, Cannot be taught.
Okay a gratuitous pot shot at an improving defenceman, but the point remains, Tuna, guys is gonna get better.
Of course he will but the question is he the next Steve Duchesne who couldn't play defence for ***** but was an elite puck mover, or the next Scott Neidermeyer...he plays like a center in the O zone like Neidermeyre used to, but he defends like Duchesne does.
One is just an elite PP QB who never reaches his potential and floats aorunf the league, the other is a corner stone Dman who gets your team into position to win Cups.

That sounds like a huge question, for the fans.
The people actually involved don't give a **** about dumb little comparisons like this. If Karlsson keeps improving, everyone who matters is happy.

To me Iin the end) it's about a player's general attitude towards certain aspects of their game. We know he is fast and a fluid skater so really him being able to pivot will just take practice and a commitment to bettering himself. He doesn't require a whole lot of work on his offensive game.
For players to become well rounded they have to decide for themselves that they want it. You can come into a deep team like Seguin has and be benched and given peanuts for minutes if you are not being defensively responsible or lack positional awareness or you can go to a team like the Oilers where mistakes are accepted because expectations for the team are low. Some teams will demand more from players depending on the teams status but it is up for the player to make the changes. Will Kessel ever go into the corners and fight for a puck etc etc.
It takes years for some players who are used to the glory and big pay that comes with offensive production to appreciate the defensive side of the game just as much. Some never do. As we all realize, he is young and there is time especially with the Sens, so it will be a combo of the team challenging him to be better and him wanting it which only he can control.
He's not even the worst defensive player on our team.
He is however the youngest smallest, weakest and least experienced.
But I digress we should probably ***** all over him at every possible opportunity that way everyone with ADD who starts these threads can feel smugly satisfied with themselves on a daily basis.
and you contributed to its demise with you assphat attitude..grats on your own lack of awareness and piling on and inability to ignore a thread or discussion you don't agree with.
It's pretty sad that a fairly sizable portion of Senators fans aren't capable of liking anything but stay-at-home, never pass, never shoot, never pinch defensemen.
It will be fun to see this thread about Rundblad if he gets more than 30 points next season.

I'd say he is the worst just because he makes so many bad decisions game in and game out. Like really horrible deciison that lead to scoring chances.
I'm not sure why people are so defensive about Kalrsson..
This is a fan base that ripped Spezza for years and until this season he never really understood how important it was for him to not make stupid high risk plays, that is a long time for that type of message to sink in since he was probably hearing it since he was 16.
If Karlsson takes as long to discipline his decision making he may be the next Marc Streit and not an eltie Dman he can become.
Dylan Reese, Mike Mottau, Brett Lebderp and many more. Even Kuba.
Karlsson's going up against top opposition and learning to play as a top pairing guy. Given he's still tiny and looks like he's worn out and/or playing injured and it's understandable. So yes, he's been pretty bad, but given the context, it's acceptable.
Tuna could have and should have phrased his concers in a more palatable manner so to not incite such harsh reactions from the riot squade. Part of posting on here and creating a threa dif you want intelligent discussion is to not come across as so devisive and hardcore because lots of posters including myself have serious rage issues and want to **** down someones throat for one reason or another. Keep that in mind tuna if you want to generate serious discussion or just create threads for shock purposes. Don;t act all surprised when you get shock reactions and people **** on you with a thread like this. I see that it has underlying merit but it's near impossible to have a fruitful discussion at this point.

Yeah this team needs like 6 Mike Fishers and 4 more Anton Volchenkovs, if we're in a position next year to add another Chris Kelly, then we'd be looking at a true dynasty.

My thoughts as well.
Most people that follow this team understand Karlsson's struggles. Most people should also understand the situation he is faced with is much much more difficult then the average 20 year old defensemen is put in. Most people should understand it's about progression over the next 3-4 years.
Otherwise, not much has been brought to the table as a result of this thread.
Karlsson wasn´t drafted because of his defensive skills. He is an outstanding offensive talent. But with the whole team struggeling, especially our veteran d-men (Gonchar, Phillips, Kuba) he is put into situations where he normally wouldn´t play. He has the most ice time on a struggeling team and often plays against the other teams top lines. I think we should blame Clouston here for bad coaching. In situations like ours you should put the veterans in these situations and not a 2nd year, 5´11, 20 year old d-man. In the future Karlsson should be paired with Cowen. The will complement each other very well and Karlsson will look a lot better with a good team around him. Look back at Dan Boyle. He was minus 29 in just 37 games with the Lightning when they finished last in 2007-2008. One year later he was a plus 6 with the Sharks.
I think a more interesting poll would be "Is tuna99 the worst poster on HF?"
Or maybe, "Does the city of Ottawa have the most bi-polar backstabbing fans in the league? throwing a new whipping boy under the bus every season."
The only thing more pathetic than some of our posters this season has been our teams play on ice.
If all you can focus on is how bad EK's defensive game is this season then you are the type of fan who ripped on Alfie after that turnover vs Buffalo in the playoffs, and will never be satisfied. Go cheer for the leafs you goof Tuna....

Aren't you even maybe a little concerned at how Kalrlsson is being treated by other teams? It's not just one team that plays him a certain way, it is all the teams. The respect he had last year and teams played to contain him and let him skate into them is gone. He is being persued out there like a rabbit amongs wolfs, he has no ice any more. Is it just more or do you see this as well?
This is not thr Karlsson from the playoffs last year, he is playing a completly different game.
There is no fea of his offensive game anymore because teams have learned on the rush how to neutralize him.
Remember Redden in the SCF? He came out of that completly exposed and from that moment on it was completly downhill to the point of out of the league. He was exposed by turning him around 5 feet into the zone and once the book on him was written he could no longer hide.
karlsson is a player who has the worst +/- in the league so I think the debate is fair.
Karlsson will never be a #1 dman.....Hes small and his defensive game is not there...But being 20 im sure he will grow and learn..I think Cowen in time will be the best of the three...But with Karlsson,Cowen,Rundblad and now Lee Sens are set for awhile...Gryba,Wiercoch and Campoli if he stays...future looks promising....
Skill > Speed > Size
eg. Chara has a lot of skill, and wouldn't make the allstar game based on size alone, no matter how massive he is.
Calgary tried the whole "big, tough, nasty d-core" last season and failed hard.
Karlsson is already this team's #1 Dman. Add 15 pounds to him between now and him at age 24, and suddenly size is less of an issue, but the skill and speed will still be lethal.
It doesn't help his +/- this season to have only had a consistently good goalie in the net behind him for the last 4 games played (1 of which he missed), and to have had swiss cheese goal tending for every other game before that. Add in that he gets more ES ice time than anyone on the team and you can see why his +/- is so bad.
Lay off of Karlsson guys. This team doesn't need fans to scapegoat any of its players, it needs fans to be patient while the young guys develop and the rebuild moves forward.
8 posters should have their account removed IMO...
Edit: Ahhh i want to reply to so many posts here, but i keep on getting the feeling explaining how an offensive powerhouse 20yo rookie on the worst team in the league might not have the most impressive +/- out there. Heck playing the most minutes on the lowest scoring and most goals against team in the league is such an easy task we should expect +35 out of the guy. He is a first round pick isnt he? He can't even cary his team to the playoffs? Must be a playoff choker too! Lets trade him away for Andy Sutton and Luc Richardson back...
