Then what would you call a guy with 20 goals and 59 assists? Sounds like a setup man to me.

The reason would be that a person could (justifiably so) believe that the Gaborik we've seen this year, injured and unengaged, is the one that will continue to be here the next three seasons, rather than the elite sniper of last year.

If you believe this year's Gaborik is the one you're going to have, it makes a ton of sense to move him for salary relief/assets. If you believe that last year's Gaborik is the one you're going to have, you try to find someone to a) take pressure off him or b) supplement his abilities.

I think the truth is somewhere in between, but I can certainly understand the concerns about Gaborik as our primary offensive weapon.

I have a feeling they'll be a real trade discussed in this thread for the Rangers, and im not going to like it.

He has done that, but that was a while ago. He's done nothing but regress into an AHL-caliber defenseman since. He cannot for the life of him hold the puck at the blueline, which constantly turns into goals against, like Gilroy can't take a hit without falling like he was shot in the face. It's just different levels of awfulness, and it's not worth debating over. Both suck. Move on.

They may be suffering from the same struggles, but I have no doubt in my mind that Niskanen has much more NHL potential than Gilroy.
That is true, but as of now, like Sting said, he's not a player you want on your team.

I'm resigned to the fact that one of our 2nd rounders and a lower level prospect is going somewhere for someone. lol

I get what you're saying, but I'm trying to picture how the Avs GM explains dealing his 25 year old guy for a 29 year old guy coming off a not very good season. Especially with the injury history Gaborik has. It would stand to reason that if we feel the way you listed about him and he's our guy, that a team potentially trading for him would also, no?

Arthur Staple has a chat on Newsday.com

Quote:
Staple: I can't guess at the motives, other than to note that Brooks has been doing this gig since I was playing ball hockey in my living room as a kid. I'm sure Nieuwendyk's asking for more than the Rangers would give -- and the Rangers, I'm told, wouldn't even surrender one of those three guys for Richards straight up.

Those three being Staal,Dubinsky and Stepan.

As I expected, Slats wasn't willing to move even one of those 3 of, arguably our most valuable pieces for a rental.

Guess we wait for 6:15 for McCabe news.

Not even that I hate McCabe or anything. Just worried when I see the prices teams have been paying so far this year.
