With Staal banged up a bit I would like this at the right price.

Will McCabe waive his NTC? If he does:

Gilroy, Christensen, 2nd rounder

Take it or leave it FLA. McCabe will most likely just be a rental anyway and re-sign with FLA in the offseason.

McCabe has a high salary so that may take his value down alla Kovalev.

There was zero market for Kovalev. Rangers are bidding for McCabe so we will have to pay a price.

Always liked McCabe when he was in Toronto. He's definitely a top 4 D-man and Rangers will like his mobility and he has that shot which isn't the same as it was when he was here, but he can still do damage.

Actually, I won't even mind him back in Toronto in offseason.

I say why? I have seen the Rangers play, that defense looks pretty strong to me. If they want a veteran presence, I dont think I would overpay for McCabe. That Sauer and McDonagh duo looks awesome, and though Staal is banged up, I just dont know where McCabe fits here.

If they can get McCabe on the cheap end, then I think that may work, though his numbers are on the decline these past years, specifically goals. If it means giving away one of your young dmen, would you Ranger fans really be happy with that?

i loved Caber when he was a leaf. but i don't want any part of him now. we're building a young core. keep the past where it belongs

You're right.

He won't be bad for a number 4 d-man, though. You can rebuild at the same time, but you also need a little bit of experience.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I don't want him here, and I sure as hell don't want him back home where my blueshirts may actually have a shot!

He doesn't remember playoffs, nor does he remember how to throw a body check.

LOL I don't see any connection between McCabe and Kovalev. I guess the return will be small like what Fisher and his "high salary" returned.

I'd want #27 back before McCabe

Macabe was said to be willing to move if he got an extension. I don't
think Sather should do more than 2 years for him.

Idealy, the NYR would send Gilroy, EC and a 4th rounder to Fla for McCabe.
I was never keen on this deal until I got word that Staal may be injured. EC and Gilroy are done on the NYR anyway. I could see the FLA asking for MDZ, ( I wouldn't think that was some crazy Nieuwendyk offer), but as a NYR fan, I can't do that.

So,

EC, Gilroy (FA), and a 4th
for
An old man who used to be effective (McCabe)

I believe his wife is from Long Island and IIRC Islanders(close enough) were one of the places he would waive his NTC for.

I really don't see Sather offering McCabe any kind of contract if the Rangers traded for him. They want to use whatever cap space they have this summer to re-sign Anisimov, Dubinsky, Boyle, Sauer, and Callahan while going hard after Richards if he hits the UFA market in the summer.

I don't think the Rangers are moving Gilroy. And keeping in mind that McCabe would be a rental and maybe even going back to the Panthers in the off season--Christensen and a 3rd/4th would seem like enough.

There will be no extension for McCabe. He's a target precisely because he's UFA at year's end.

My prediction is Gilroy, Frolov (cap purposes) and a 3rd.

You're right our defense is pretty solid but we desperately need a puck moving d-man with a shot from the point. I would take him for cheap but I wouldn't consider moving any young player for him. (I don't consider Gilroy to be one of those young dmen)

Doesn't Frolov technically not have a cap hit anymore, because of LTIR status?

He had his bachelor party here in Montauk. Evedently, he and his friends were partying in my buddy's bar. I never saw him but I heard he was a really nice guy, and his cohorts were a lotta fun.

Please tell me that is "or" and not "and" those commas represent, otherwise that is a hell of a lot to give up for a rental.
