Niklas Hjalmarsson (in the offseason)

Now that Seabrook's re-signing is done, seems the Hawks *may* have to move salary this offseason and Niklas Hjalmarsson seems like a realistic candidate to to be dealt. (Obviously, if Soupy can be moved, he'd go first but doubt there are any takers again.)

What would the Hawks want for Hjalmarsson?

Not intending to be a troll. Genuinely interested in this as the Sharks had interested this past offseason, though, I doubt Bowman would want to deal him to the Sharks after the offer sheet.

Don't know what the Hawks want, but I wouldn't mind watching him at the Rock next season.

A 1st and a 3rd? I don't think they're that hard-pressed to move Hjalmarsson unless they're ready to replace him but if they do, they're not going to get what they could've in the off-season with that offer sheet.

I have no idea what the Hawks want but probably not salary. Guessing a pick + prospect (fwd, I assume? since it seems they have lots of d depth).

I'll throw something out.
3rd + (Ferreiro or McGinn)?

Of course, it'll all depend on what next season's cap is but in playing with their lineup in Capgeek, they really seem a bit tight and have to go cheap again with their depth (bottom 6, 3rd pairing and in goal). They could strike gold by filling it with rookies who shine but that seems risky for a 2nd year in a row and beyond.

I do think Hammer will be moved. It will all depend on what the Hawks do in UFA as to what he'll go for.

Doesn't Chicago have like 6 million tied up in bonuses this season that they should be getting back after the Toews n Kane bonuses are paid?
Wouldn't they just use that, and the extra cap of how much it goes up?

Hawks have $47.1M locked up in 9 players for the 2011-12 season. Ouch...

This is where the Brian Campbell contract REALLY hurts. Granted, he's helped the hawks out, especially in the powerplay; but that was too big of a contract to give him.

I would rather send him to AHL for a year then give him to Doug Wilson

Wilson can go resign Wallin to a mutli year deal

I could see the Oilers making a deal for Niklas at the draft.

Barring Brouwer, Frolik, and Crawford getting huge raises we should have no problem keeping Hjalmarsson and Bolland. I doubt he gets moved.

Or send Soupy to the AHL. True, I have a hard time seeing Bowman deal with DW ever again but one can hope.

Our D next year actually looks decent - just exploring upgrades:

Murray - Boyle
Vlasic - White ($3.5m per for 3 yrs?)
Braun - Demers

(not exact pairings)

Gladly, no more Wallin or Huskins

I'd welcome him on the Sharks but I can't see those teams trading ever again. Hopefully Campbell can waive his NTC to go to Columbus and the Sharks can then acquire Tyutin from the Jackets.

Yes please, but I have no idea why Soupy would want to go to the Jackets.

Campbell does not play on the PP.

Sorry I don't mean ever but he contributes nothing on PP when he's on.

It really sucks having elite players who show up in the playoffs.

Dammit! Why couldn't our guys just suck? Then we'd have no cup but at least they'd be cheaper!!!!

Yeah.. he kinda does contribute.

Not much an Dman could do when your second unit for most of the season looks like Brouwer/Bickell/Bolland

Lol, again, the cost of winning relaly sucks.

Our problems this season has more to do with the 4M in bonuses counting against the cap (Caused by.. you guess it, winning!) then it does Keith, Kane, and Toews' contract increases.

That 4M in extra cap space is the difference between keeping Ladd/Niemi vs watching them leave.
