Anyone have the scouting report on Boyes? What's his game like?
My best comparison to a Sabre would be Pominville. He's a bit of a streaky player, but not lazy. Decent skater, responsible defensively, plays on the right side, has a solid shot but has become more of a set-up guy over the last couple years. He won't wow you with any puck-handling skills or dekes, but he's a good complimentary player offensively, and works well with any type of forward.
He's really good in the slot when he gets himself open, and he can play center too (although I think his preferred position is wing).
He's a $4-million cap hit which I guess matters to us now because we're spending to limit. It's fair chunk of the cap based on current skills. I don't mind the deal. He improves the team and I want to make the playoffs.
I hope there's more -- Liles.
classic tight-lipped darcy move. no one saw this one coming.
the best part about this whole thing: if regier trades connolly for a 2nd tomorrow, depending on where he goes, it's possible that the 2nd we'll receive will be better than the 2nd we just gave up.
Blues fan here. He has been a solid assist man this year and that is absolutely it. Won't battle for pucks, won't play physical and forgot how to score. Also, his misses the net more than anyone on our team. Again, can pass and that's it. Good luck with him. and the rest of the season.
has scored 33+ goals in 3 different seasons...excellent trade. It will be nice to see what Darcy can conjure up when he's not working with his hands tied.
He has never taken much more than 300 faceoffs in a year. Never higher than 6th in total faceoffs taken.
Hard time believing a center can take so few faceoffs
I think that's mostly because he was never given a good enough chance at center. His faceoff % has always been fair, usually around 45-50%, but he's always been on teams with solid center depth, so he's always sort of been pushed to the wing. I think his positioning is his stronger asset when he's in the middle, not his face-off ability. I recall last year, when Boyes and Backes would play on the same line, Backes would take the draws because he's the stronger player, but Boyes would take the center position after the draw for coverage and such.

Was it a chemistry problem? Could a change of scenary put him back on track?
(Serious question)
