hightide -- It's an even bigger problem, in my view, that there are people here actively encouraging NOT going after Richards in a trade! They just ASSUME he's a guaranteed Ranger on the 1st of July.

The vast majority of Rangers fans seem content on never-ending mediocrity.

Sheesh, relax people. It's amazing that any of you WANTED to trade away assets for Richards. Dallas didn't move him. That means we're still likely top destination for him and the likelihood of him re-signing in Dallas is very slim, IMO. We could have done something rash like give up Anisimov and a 1st or we could have stood pat and made every effort to sign him July 1st; we went with the latter and I have a feeling it will payoff. Step back from the ledge.

God help this team score goals. Going to be a really long stretch here.

MZA and McDonaugh were sent down so they can be eligible to play in the AHL playoffs.

Yeah I could care less about the Mitchell trade. If he is a better 4th line option than Newbury, so be it. If he is just going to Hartford to replace Tim Kennedy, so be it.

He could also compete with Ethan Werek amongst others for the 4th line center spot next year.

Leafs fan:

Mitchell has good speed and isn't small, he hits a bit and has an acceptable two way game, but...

We call him Johnny Malkin because when he tries to do too much, which is almost always, he ends up thinking he's Evgeni Malkin, only Malkin is an all-world talent and Mitchell is a middling career AHLer.

AHL depth or a 4th line callup. I'd rather have him than be paying Drury the $248,703,292 per year he makes.

i'd give you MDZ, but anisimov can be easily replaced by a boyle or even someone like ethan werek.

Gut feeling is that Slats were dangling Zucc for Richars. Showcasing him on the point last night (he was playing the exact same role as BR have for Dal, and sometimes almost for a full PP). Dal was worried about losing BRs PP ability. Wandell in a interview in Sweden. Just guessing of course...

It's an even bigger problem in my opinion that people would be so stupid as to encourage trading major assets for a guy who is not actually playing hockey and has no time table for return.

People show their true age/maturity on deadline day... amazing how many people are cursing out Sather, Neiuwendyk, GMs in general, freaking out over moving a 7th in 2012 and losing faith in the Rangers because all we did was add McCabe and insurance forward. That's what building and staying with the youth means folks. They'll go after Richards on July 1st. If they get him, great and if they don't they'll probably make some other moves in the summer. They're not going to move high picks or young roster players to make a splash on deadline day, so I'm not sure what you expected?

My only disappoint today is the lack of movement overall and a pretty vanilla deadline.

This was the best possible thing that could happen. We already made our move, getting McCabe. Got AHL depth, and Sather didn't blink on the Richards front.

I am no Sather apologist but what was he suppossed to do? I am sure if he wanted Brad Richards, he would have just added assets. I have to think he was working the phones pretty heavilly today and they couldn't come to an agreement. If Sather offered a package around Marc Staal or Derek Stepan and/or offered valuable picks, Richards would be a Ranger.

Also, if the McCabe deal occurred today rather than Saturday, would we applaude the deal or say "That's it?"

As far as Zuccarello and McDonaugh being sent down, I am not sure I agree with that move. Zuccarello maybe but why McDonaugh?

Just because we have a good pool of trading chips doesn't mean we should spend them foolishly.

Trading chips for a concussed player who will be available in 20 games and who may even ask for way too large a contract is idiotic.

Glad that Sather didn't give up key youngsters and picks for Richards. However, don't kid yourselves. Nothing guarantees that Richards will be a Ranger on July 1st, or for that matter, that he'll even hit the free agent market.

Yeah what learn today is that the urgency that existed amongst NBA teams does not translate whatsoever into the NHL.

I am pissed, if anything, for us letting Erik Johnson and co without getting a piece. It feels like Slats were preoccupied with looking for rentals. We do not need rentals, we need elite players.

No Big deal. Our future doesn't hinge on a 31 year old 7-8 million dollar player who is a very good player but in no way a dominating 60 minute beast on a nightly basis.

So they are eligible to participate in the AHL playoffs should we not make the playoffs and if/when we get eliminated.

Deals still not announced but nothing major as far as I can tell.

I have no doubt Slats tried his best and couldn't get the pieces Joe Niuewy wanted, and that's that. 50/50 chance at Richards as an UFA.

BBK, you my friend are looking at a possible league suspension for those headshots you were giving out earlier in this thread, promising big deals and what not, got to box and feel shame !

Our trade acquisitions were Wolski and McCabe.

If you think of it that way, that's not bad.

Sather held onto our core players, we can still get Richards in the summer if he doesn't want to stay in Dallas.
