If you're crazy, so am I. Bergfors is the best player in that deal.

He is the best in that deal, but he wasn't working out in Atlanta under Ramsay. Dvorak is an excellent PKer and Atlanta has a putrid PK (ranked 28th). And Dvorak may not be just a rental. Dudley has identified players that he wants and fit the system, and then he's re-signed them: Byfuglien, Stuart, and they're talking contract with Ladd.

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet they lock up Dvorak. He can definitely fill a role there and is probably a better fit than Bergfors. I love the deal for Florida, though. Bergfors still has a lot of upside and they gave up a pending UFA and a 5th round pick for him.

I've always looked at Bergfors as a slightly more committed version of Nik Zherdev. Can be the best player on the ice one night, and will then go missing for two weeks. I could see him getting bounced around the league and then heading back to Europe in 2-3 years.

Both of Florida's trades have been inside the division. That's gotta be pretty rare.

EDIT: And I forgot about Stillman earlier...that's three guys they've sent within the division.

I wonder if this is a case where the extra year actually hurts the player's value. Wideman is owed $4.5 next season, which is a bit price for what he brings. Both McCabe and Wideman go for 3rd's and fringe prospects. That can't be good for Monty's value. Thanks, Tallon.

And Conklin clears. I think he would've been worth a shot. There's no roster limit issue, and you could've kept Lalime in the room. He's cheap, too, and you wouldn't have had to shuttle Enroth back and forth. Blah.

I wonder if Les Thrash picked up Schremp because they believed Buffalo may be interested in taking a flyer on him. An outsider may identify Schremp as someone Buffalo could potentially be interested in: center and above-average on the PP. Oh, and he's from upstate NY.

I'm not saying Buffalo was interested, just that Atlanta may have been trying to block Buffalo from potentially getting him.

i thought the same thing... but if regier was really interested, why not trade a 7th for him? gotta assume a team like ATL would do what they did

PHX trades Lepisto and Upshall to CBJ for Rotislav Klesla and Dane Byers.

I'm kind of surprised they added future salary. They have Alzner to worry about as an RFA (though it shouldn't be hard to get him locked up), Mike Green with another year at a $5.2 million cap hit, Wideman with another year at a $3.9375 mil cap hit, Jeff Schultz with three more years at a $2.75 mil hit, Tom Poti with two more years at a $2.875 hit, and John Erskine with two more years at $1.5 mil. You have to think someone is moving at some point, as they have Varlamov, Brooks Laich, and Mike Knuble to worry about at the end of the year, too.

Interesting. I like it for Columbus because Lepisto is underrated and I like Upshall's game, but Klesla is probably the best player in the deal and could be that top pairing defenseman the Coyotes need to complement Yandle.

edit: Didn't realize Upshall was a pending UFA. Maybe a cost cutting move on Columbus' part to move Klesla and go with the cheaper Lepisto?

Per Gleason, Ruff was telling the media Boyes will play on Connolly's wing. Obviously, things can change, but it seems like Connolly is definitely in their plans. That said, such an offer may not have rolled in at the time Lindy was speaking to the media. I'm doubting the rumor, but I'd be happy if it went down.
