I can imagine Jame isn't too happy. What's the equivalent package from Buffalo? Gerbe + 4th? Hecht is signed for another year, while Samsonov is UFA after this year. Tallon better really hope that UFA's want to come to Florida.
Look at the market. It sucked today. A lot of GMs did nothing today, with the exception of Florida, who sold the boat and the kitchen sink.
Regier said he made inquiries about bigger, longer term players (I'm assuming Stastny to be one), but it just didn't pan out. They'll try again in the summer.
Trades don't just happen because you or your GM want them to. The person sending us their players also has to agree to it...
I have to agree. Given the market, I can't fault Regier for inactivity. There are only a couple guys who were traded over the past three weeks who I might have been interested in. Fisher was quite expensive (1st rounder), and Klesla doesn't fit our needs that well. Otherwise you had guys like Stillman maybe, but I'll take Boyes over him.
Then you look at our competitors. Carolina got Stillman and Allen for Samsonov + White, did they get much better than we did? Allen hasn't been the same after injuries, and Boyes > Stillman IMO.
The Rangers got McCabe. Good add for their PP, but was it much better than us getting Boyes? Nope.
The Leafs sold guys. They certainly didn't get better.
The Thrashers made a bunch of moves, but is Stuart +Wheeler + Dvorak better than Peverley + Valabik + Bergfors + Rissmiller + Sopel? A little bit sure, but certainly we improved more than they did, especially when you factor in disruption in chemistry from moving that many bodies.
We improved more than the teams we need to beat. Regier was a winner this deadline--didn't overpay yet improved his team as much or more than the other guys.
