I still have one of the paper faces that was used as an auction sign at HockeyFest once...

No, the cutout would have better foot speed

One of the funniest comments I have seen in a long while, good work Lee!

Good trade for you guys. Upshall is a fire plug, he will get in there and score some goals and give you the physical side as well.

Lepisto is a project. He's a good puck moving man and has some decent speed as a Dman.

To those of you guys complaining about Klesla's injuries: Upshall has never played more than 61 games. This is the first season he's been healthy for. Last season, he only played 49 games. The year before that, 19.

I don't know anything about Upshall's game, but 80 goals, 85 assists in 340 games is not exactly top 6 material. I can't see why this would be an upgrade over a solid second pairing defenseman who was on track to be a +18 this year. Hopefully I'm missing something important, either with respect to Upshall's non-stats-related skills, or the second player in the deal.

Bye Rusty, good luck to you!

It would sort of be like a weekend at Bernie's thing. Give Lepisto Klesla's jersey, call him Klesla... I think we could keep her going for a minute

I texted her the news. Waiting for the mushroom cloud over Columbus now.

On TSN's poll 70% of voters think Columbus won on this trade. Either they've seen more of Upshall/Lepistö or less of Klesla than me. Can't really say I'm jumping with joy, hate to see the last original go. But maybe this is part of a bigger plan, personally I don't see us able to make any better push to playoffs than we were before the trade.

However if Huselius is injured for a while, adding another (barely) top-6 forward to fill in while he's out makes sense.

Tell her that Klesla will at least be playing in the playoffs this year.
Upshall and Lepisto still to be determined if they'll be doing so.

Yes gaining secondary scoring and a better/cheaper Stralman is a bad thing.

Yes injuries are a concern. However Upshall's PROD numbers has been 30:00 or below for the last 3 of the last 4 years. That's potential second line numbers. If not, that's great contribution from the bottom six.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. I would take Upshall over Klesla any day of the week. Klesla is serviceable but not worth how much money he is making. Also, if Moore and Savard coming up are as good as advertised, then we will be needing to make some room here shortly anyway. Then throw in Clitsome who has already been playing well up here. Its gonna get crowded.

With Klesla contract gone, and Upshall and Lepisto's contracts expiring in offseason, hopefully we can add a big piece with that money freed up.

Wish Klesla the best, but I wont miss him much to be honest. He never turned out to be the cornerstone of our franchise or an offensive Dman.

This a good win now trade, and also prepares us for future. Good on all levels.

Upshall has a huge carrot at the end of the stick, as he is a UFA after this season. He should be an impact player for us.

This is a very good looking move, not lets see how it pans out.

Klesla could be a great defenseman if he stayed healthy, there's the rub. Good luck Rusty, you are a class act in my book.

Possibly the greatest trade since Gretz went to the Kings! Be gone with your bruised knee and losing mentality!

Frees up money for next year, gets rid of a HORRIBLE contract, should have never been re-signed. Makes room for Moore and Savard and hopefully a NHL Dman upgrade. It's no secret I have said for the better part of 5 years that Klesla was a wasted roster spot. And I think the new guys could add something, but if they don't we got rid of a horrible contract and a player that never showed much passion and couldn't carry the puck or shoot the puck or pass the puck or hit or fight or clear the net or really anything a defensemen should excel at. Make room in the press box and the trainers table Phoenix, here comes Klesla!!

Klesla's motto has always been "If it requires a Band-Aid, better give it 6-8 weeks to heal..." He tried milking this "tender knee" until after the trade deadline again, same as last year, but thankfully Scottie Howson found someone dumb enough to pick up that contract and heavy footed, lumbering ox that played like he was 5'6"....

Good riddance!!

I liked Klesla, but I like the Jackets more. And this makes the Jackets better.

I've always been a fan of Lepisto. He will be popular in Columbus. Upshall as well. He'll fit in nicely. Well done, Howson. Best of luck to Klesla.
