Another thing to think about is what the Hawks due with him next year. Say he does very well here due the Hawks Qualify him which would be 1.4 mil. Which if he does good is cheap for a solid bottom pairing guy. Plus at that price if anyone signs him the Hawks will get a third back and anything higher then like 1.6 or so a second comes back.

Chicago will be plenty happy with Campoli.

Good pickup for Chicago. Campoli is a good defenseman and adds depth to their defense.

not that he plays the same game..

but if the hawks plan to trade hjalmarsson this offseason or next to free up 3.5

campoli can be a viable 4/5 defenseman

having a top 6 of
campbell keith seabrook leddy campoli wouldn't be too too bad if you ask me

Great move for both sides. (My two favorite teams, too)

Sens get a second round pick for a player that wasn't going to be in their fold anyway and Chicago gets a solid player to pair up with either Hjalmarsson or Leddy.

Love it.

Campoli doesn't suck defensively. I've been more impressed with his offense than his defense. His offense hasn't thrived this year because we've had problems scoring all season. He played through last year injured as well. He's not soft and he'll throw a hit and take a hit. He's creative in the offensive zone and he doesn't give up on plays.

Jordan Hendry was a 5/6 d-man with a low salary. That's what Campoli is. He's played decent on a really awful team this year. He's at LEAST as good as Hendry, and as I stated earlier, has a plus/minus inline with Keith & Seabrook, and has better statistics than Hammer.

With our cap situation...I don't know what it is you guys were expecting. He's an upgrade even without Hendry getting injured. Now that he's on the shelf for 6 months, we needed something like this even more. Would you prefer we just have Cullimore or Scott on the blueline regularly for the rest of the season? How 'bout we call another rookie up? I don't like any of those options. Campoli will fill in nicely with what he'll be expected to bring to the table.

I haven't seen Campoli play this year, but imo, this seems like a solid trade. If a guy like Smid was going to cost us a top prospect or a 1st I am more than pleased with this. Potulny was nothing really, and the 2nd will probably be our own or Calgarys (45-60). Plus, we can more than likely resign him for less than 1.6, if not we take the 2nd round pick as compensation I believe.

Win-win, especially with Hendry going down.

As a sens fan, I think Chicago overpaid, but I also think some of you are being unfair to Campoli. He has been one of, if not the, best defeseman on the sens this year (which I know doesn't mean a lot).

I think a 3rd would have been closer to fair than a 2nd, but it's really a pretty even trade given the conditions of the 2nd. I know very little about this Poltuny character though, so maybe I'm wrong.

Ummm Campoli was gonna go the way of free agency considering the talent in the pipeline, we have 8 d-men signed for next year.. Rundblad, Cowen, Karlsson, Gonchar, Phillips, Carkner, Lee, Kuba. And we have Gryba and Wiercioch in minors.. Campoli was redundant, the fact Murray got a player to fill the hole of one of our 100 injured players and 2nd rounder is amazing for a free agent to be.. though he is an RFA

Campoli is a very servicable, inexpensive d-man. Ottawa would have kept him had they not signed Phillips or been able to unable one of either Kuba or Gonchar. Unfortunately Bowman wasn't interested in either of them . Anyways - I think you will be pleasently surprised. Personally I don't consider him a PK specialist but he handles the puck well and doesn't screw around getting the puck out of his own end. And as mentioned he's an RFA this summer so Chicago can make a decision then. The 2nd is the lowest of the 3 2nd round picks you have (Calgary/Atlanta or your own). All in all it's a good trade for both teams based on the circumstances.

and we're overloaded with defenseman and hurting for forwards. Potulny sounds like a clone of 5/6+ of our current roster forwards (Smith, Winchester, Butler, Foligno, Regin, Shannon, Condra, Greening, Svatos)

Campoli for whatever reason has never put up the numbers in Ottawa except for the 1/4 season he spent with Ottawa after the NYI trade.

His defence was actually good this year but he was traded for a 1st round pick to put up 45 pts and play a 4th dman role, something that was not going to happen in Ottawa considering Karlsson, Rundblad, and Gonchar as the offensive dman on the team next year and Cowen on top of that.

2nd round pick is a fair value, he was going to be a RFA not UFA and only makes 1.4 mill. I don't see him going over 2-2.5 max in his next deal unless he lights it up here in the next 3 months and in the playoffs.

didn't mean so much towards the "Style" side - more along the caliber and/or potential upside....

Can anyone shed light on what's wrong with Potulny?

Looks like he was on pace for almost 20 goals with Edmonton last year and he was let go?

I don't have high hopes or anything, I'm just curious.

Don't you have to use your own pick on an offer sheet deal?

Could it be that the Hawks want to keep the option of using their own for an offer sheet?

Heh, last year I wanted to trade Barker for Campoli, now we get him anyway. I like the deal, what the Hawks give up is pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things, I'm not real concerned about giving "value" or "overpaying" when it comes to a 2nd round pick, we needed a dman and got one that can play more than 12 mins a night. He should fit in real well with the rest of the d corps.

As do I.

Solid bottom pairing guy that can play in the top 4 if needed. Great skater, good offensive instincts, great first pass and his physical and defensive play have really stepped up.

Can play on both the pp and pk...

He is a slower Brandon Bochenski.

An AHL player that can be used for a spare part in the big show.
