[LAK/EDM] Dusitn Penner to LAK for Colten Teubert, 1st RND 2011, Cond 2nd/3rd 2012

Woot! Great deal! Dean finally pulled the trigger! Penner is going to be great with Kopitar and he goes to the net! 30 goal scorer on his way!

This sets us up for both this season and the next. This is a solid deal and the one I originally wanted when all this craziness first started Penner is a goal scorer, big body, goes hard to the net, and he is durable. Solid move. We finally pulled the trigger. I am pretty confident that he can reach 30 with Kopitar.

Way to go Dean. I am thrilled.

Not so coincidentally, we did a detailed analysis of Dustin Penner, what he brings along with a Q&A with a knowlegable Oilers' blogger about a month ago. Enjoy it. Really gives good insight on the player.

This makes us a better team, but not by much IMO. LA lacks speed and high-end skill. Penner doesn't help much in those areas.

I could careless about losing Tuebert, so this trade is basically a 1st + conditional 2nd/3rd for Penner. Not bad.

I'd like to see a 1st line of:
Penner-Kopitar-Williams

I wonder if TM goes back to putting Brownie on the 1st line now or maybe roll with Penner-Kopitar-Simmonds

As an oiler fan i like the deal and hope the best for Penner--

I was never a fan of his and this clears UP LW for the oiles--making Hall the clear number 1 and MPS number 2

Tuebert is the wild card as he has been struggling and the first rounder will be between 20-25 over all--

Deal works for both teams

90% of oiler fans knew that Schenn was NEVER going to be traded for anything short of Hall heading to LA

This looks like a good deal. We just got a bit more dangerous up front and we needed more scoring touch. I think both teams win.

TSN is stupid.

our top 9 next year will be some variant of

Penner-Kopi-Brown
Smyth-Schenn-Williams
Clifford/Loktionov-Stoll-Simmonds

We didn't overpay at all. That top nine is sick.

Yup. We upgraded our weakest position and we re-signed one of our top forwards to a good deal as well.

It's HF so I'm sure there's tons of "OMG KINGS GOT ROBBED!!" but losing a marginal defensive prospect and a likely late 1st rounder in a weak draft is great asset management.

Great job by Dean and co. today. Welcome to the club Penner.

Love this deal so much. We get scoring, give up picks that we don't need, AND THE BEST PART, the prospect we got rid of was Teubert.

LOL seriously? Teubert hasnt shown much of anything. 1st sure thats pretty decent but its 20+ and a conditional 3rd not that bad if you ask me

Great deal for you guys (probably for us too). DP is a great player and a great teammate. This was all about having to sign him, Hemsky, and the kids all at the same time. Check out Oil change (I think it is episode 2 or 3) on Edmontonoilers.com and see him trash talking Perry and Getzlaf...hilarous! Good luck Pens.

Sorry all for the board problems today. The record high for users online was previously ~28,000 or so. Today we hit 56,199 at one point. A decent sized city. Needless to say, it has been overwhelming.

Does LA now have the strongest Top 9 in the Pacific?

San Jose has more flash but they lack the shutdown forwards that LA has in Stoll and Handzus.

DL got us a top 6 forward without giving up Simmonds, Schenn or Voynov. Not to mention other good prospects we have. Teubert kept dropping on the depth chart and thats with guys like Forbort and Deslauriers not even in Manchester yet.
