****, I was watching TSN all day and the only time I stop watching, the Kings sign Dustin Penner and the TSN Panel starts talking **** and saying it was a bad trade. Does anyone have a video of this?
They didn't all say it was bad. From what I saw, it was only the first group, including Pierre, that were acting like it was some overpayment. Quite a few of the others were praising the move. Eddie Olczyk, Darren Pang, etc. were all raving about the acquisition.
It's three fold. 1) It's a Canadian broadcast. They're going to play up to those viewers. 2) They alternate between contrarian viewpoints. They did it throughout the special. They were babbling all show about how Chicago needs to trade for a d-man, then they do, and they start babbling how they need another one now. 3) As "experts" they're going to act like they know everything even when they don't. I'd be surprised if all of those guys combined has seen Teubert play more than a handful of times since he left the WHL...and that's being generous. It doesn't help that Pierre is like the hyperbole version of a lot of HF posters in the prospects section. He thinks every pick/prospect is going to be a MONSTER!

Penner isn't a game breaker but he makes us much better than we were yesterday and a hard team to play against. We lost nothing of significance to pick him up which is a awesome and we get him for another year.
This year's draft is meh.
Ladies and Gentlemen, live from Staples Center, your LA OILERS!
I actually like the trade, actually didn't think anything was going to happen today. Was hoping my flight would be delayed so I can get all the news on the trades until the deadline.
Far as the trade, we did pretty well considering the market was way too high. We overpayed in terms of value, but got a good player that fits into the Kings overall plans this year and next.
Reading the transcript of Dean talking about the trade, it sounds like Dean didn't think there was a deal to be had today, until the Oilers called back and said we'll take your last offer.
I also liked the fact Dean said Bernier and Schenn weren't going anywhere.
Meh, Lombardi will still be going after Richards. With Penner signed, I can see him battling with Sather for Richards. Rangers will probably get him just like how NJ got Kovalchuk, but I wouldn't be shocked if we have another long process.
If he does, then Schenn can take a year in the AHL before Stoll leaves, and if he fails then Schenn or Loktionov can get the chance to make an impact.
Win/win.
The only winger of worth this July 1st would have been Semin, but he won't be on the market till the year after when Penner's contract is up.
Due to Edmonton's lack of defensive prospects, Teubert is number 2 on their depth chart behind Petry. I wouldn't doubt if he gets some NHL games this year.
I saw that the baby stig has already gone through his (its?) schooling and driving on the show, kudos!
I agree, both teams did pretty well for themselves. The Oilers are rebuilding and can afford the time it is going to take for Tuebert to continue to develop and they get two early round picks to boot.
We get a big top 6 LW who can at tiimes be a beast and definitely gives us time for Toff and Vey to develop along with Kozun. While DP may not be the perfect fit type of forward that I believe we need he is a step in the right direction and who knows, might become the real deal DP here.
Good Lord, that's a nice line-up. Third line looks downright beastly!
When you break it down, Kings will be a bruising physical team that will wear your team down over time. That's critical. Remember we got worn down by the Canucks last year?
LA just became my 2nd favorite team. I loved Penner in Edmonton, sucks to see him go now. Hope he does well for you guys. Would be nice to watch him tonight.
