Regarding the Lapierre trade, I find it funny that nobody sees it as an horrible overpayment for Vancouver. Lapierre is near useless. Anaheim got lucky at the right time, that's it.

White sent to Hamilton?

Does this make sense to ANYBODY?

Not a cap issue. Not a roster issue (no more 23 man roster). Not a trade. And now if we need him due to injury we only have a few call-ups left for the rest of the season.

I'm sorry, but somebody needs to explain this to me.

We should have sold. At least thought about dealing Hammer, Gill or Halpern.

I really wonder why we bothered with Mara / Sopel... Meh

The weird move today by Gauthier was sending WHite to Hamilton AFTER getting to Atlanta. Don't understand that one.

Status Quo, excellent. Exactly what I wanted...

Although, I would have never thought Higgins and Lapierre would get the best chance at aa Stanley cup this year.

I get pessimistic like anyone but this year? WTF were you all expecting? Such a ****ing bipolar fanbase. All we hear is whining when we do make a trade so what's the point? I don't consider Gauthier a genius but gimme a break. That Penner deal I want no part of. The rumour of "Tinordi + 1st" was thankfully just that. If it went down, it'd be "going for it" as people want, but a horrible deal.
Pretty much what I think.

Lapierre asked to be traded away from Montreal, and now it's an intra-conference deadline move, obviously the price will be a bit higher. We didn't move, and it was the right thing to do.

This team is going no where fast. Molson must be fermenting beer on his head right now.
Last time I heard, A team in 6th place isnt Mediocre.

Oh and wait, 6th place without Markov, Gorges on defense...

I'm certainly happy Gauthier didn't overpay to get anybody. Sometimes the best moves are no moves. Are we a Stanley Cup contender? No..sorry to burst some bubbles, but that wouldn't change even if we traded for Penner (LA got fleeced btw). Me might as well hold on to ou assets and see what happens in the playoffs this year. Penner is inconsistent at best, we don't need another player like that.

If Lapierre plays like he did last year in the playoffs for us I don't think its an overpayment.

How the heck could the Caps add Sturm (3M), Wideman (4M) and Arnott (4.5M) without dumping any salary and with guys like Semin, Backstrom and Ovie on the cap?

It's always a bit disappointing when nothing happens, but I'm actually pretty happy. To get Stastny, get rid of Gomez or get Penner for cheap was all wishful thinking.

The important things that didn't happen today:

*We didn't trade away Kostitsyn
*We didn't overpay for Penner
*We didin't take on Dumonts horrible contract

The Habs ending the trade deadline with cap room left is despicable.

Not wanting to mortgage the future cause this team isn't any good, that's fine.
But with the money this team makes, not spending a dime today with all the cap space available due to injuries borders on outrageous if you ask me.

Should have just kept the 5th, 3rd and Maxwell if nothing was going to happen. That would have made more sense.
