FWIW Dobby tried to use the KHL as a bargaining chip. I don't think he seriously wanted to go there but the tactic alone could piss off the crew that's signing your paycheck.

you know what, people always say that getting an injured star back is like making a big trade at the deadline, and we have Bouchard back and healthy and Havlat back to being Havlat... and I assume Lattendresse will return sometime soon, no?

Eh... He had a setback. How big? Who knows. But it looks like a long shot.

sorry to say i was right about Lats and the liklihood he'd be ready soon. dude has an apparently well deserved rep for taking his conditioning too lightly.

Russo said that he was looking pretty plumpy on ESPN 1500.

I saw him at the Aeros game and he didn't look that big... unless he had a big tummy under the table

Lehtonen has every intention of going over next season. He sort of came to sweden to develop and hopefully get noticed by NHL-scouts (loads of them here, same team as A Larsson and other prospects.)
He still has a lot of work to do defensively and hasn't really proven himself on the national team, but has been a fantastic sniper for his SEL-team. Great speed and great hands. Very humble guy as well.

// Swedish fan of his current team.

Ultimately this is like trading for Johan Holmqvist. Not a major move.

And probably wasn't meant to be. Prospect swaps rarely pay dividends, but thing is, you never know...

Or maybe trading away Michalek. Two prospects > one, right?

Michalek was interesting because you know...defenseman > goaltender.

I love, love, love this trade after reading the two new prospect bios. We get even deeper on D and he seems to have good AHL stats and a huge Finnish winger that could break onto our roster next year if he chooses to come over.

ha. Ya i haven't seen him, just going by what Russo said. Russo just doesn't sound that impressed.

Although he did say that he has less body fat now than when he went into camp.

This trade is the reason we lost to the Hawks tonight. Got rid of an NHL caliber goalie for marbles.

I'll translate some that was posted in that link on the previous page:

Lehtonen said that his agents had told Boston Bruins that he wanted to get traded because he didn't seem to get an opportunity in the Bruins shirt. He sat awake and was nervous that he wouldn't get traded but got happy when he was traded at last.
He said that he didn't know what Minnesota expects or knows of him but he said that they would possibly talk about the future in the coming days AND that he is interested in playing in the NHL again.

Something like that

Lehtonen had 103 points in 2 AHL seasons before heading back to Europe. We had 2 50+ point forwards last year, 28 year old Jon Disalvatore(career AHLer) and the diminutive 25 year old Jean-Michel Daoust(again, career AHLer). This year, it looks to be more of the same, 25+ forwards and the diminutive Maxime Noreau(another career AHLer) on defense putting up 50+ points.

If Granlund comes over next season, he now has a countryman. Even if Lehtonen comes over for one season and puts up 50+ points in Houston playing alongside and helping Granlund adapt to North American hockey, its a success.

Penner, he's depth for Houston. Cuma's hurt and Spurgeon's up with us. He's an upgrade on Freidheim/Frasor. We've drafted one d-man in the last 2 years and traded him away, so we need to fill roles somehow. Has no contract for next season, so if he sucks, cut him loose.

Anton Khudobin had a worse save % and GAA than Hackett this season in Houston. Josh Tjordman won 20+ games each of the past 3 seasons in the AHL. We have Endras and Kuemper coming in next season, if Endras is not our NHL back-up then Kuemper is in the ECHL. There was no place for Khudobin next season if we want Kuemper in the AHL with Hackett(which means Endras will be our back-up). And even if we need a back-up in the NHL, there's guys with much more consistency and NHL experience that will be available in October/November.

This means a few more regular season games for Hackett, and he's going to be our guy when it matters most, in the playoffs. Great experience for him at this point.

Russo believes if Endras isn't our backup in the NHL, he's going back to Europe. Hackett/Kuemper will and should be the tandem in Houston for the next two years.

The goalie market is so saturated that we got Theo after the season started! We'll be fine in finding a back-up goalie.
