Burke to trade up into the top 10?

Just listening to Burke on the Bill Watters show and he went off about possible moves at the draft. Burke went on to say that it was "probable" the Maple Leafs could move up into the top 10 by moving the two 1st rounders and our own 2nd.

BOS 1st
PHI 1st
TOR 2nd

He also said that it would really depend on the results of the draft lottery and which teams held which picks.

I thought it was interesting that he brought that up.

Question is... would you move three picks between 20th and 40th for a top 10 pick?

if u could get into the top 12ish yes, but anything else no. My understanding is that this draft is a bit of a wash after the top 10-12.

I'd rather keep the 3 picks, and take your chances that at least 1 of them pans out, or use them to aquire an established 1st line center/LW

I agree. I think if a player slides from the top 5 and they want him really bad, it's okay to make that deal. But if it's just to move up into the top 10 and wait to see who is available, I think I'd keep the picks.

Really like the idea of three picks between 20 and 40th.

I like Murphy too.

I assume if there is a player available that they want, they'll move up then. It's not a theoretical case of "would I trade three of these for one of those" it's "I want that guy."

But that won't stop us from having a few dozen threads about it between now and June.

Doubtful we get into Top 5, but Top 10: Huberdeau/Strome/Murphy would be sweet.

I'm also a huge advocate of keeping all 3 picks and picking:

Jurco/Catenacci/Jacobs.

Only way I'd give up those three picks is if one of the big four is available. The talent in this draft really isn't so great that any one player outside that group is worth three early picks.

If it's not one of the big four, Ryan Murphy, or maybe Strome, I'd rather keep the picks.

Depends who's available really.

Like said above, Murphy would be the guy I'd be after.

I'd rather see three great prospects instead of one excellent prospect.
Lots of top line talent is drafted in the #20-35 range.

I have no idea who the top guys are this year. For those of you who know are any of the top guys NHL ready?

I'd rather throw the pics at Colorado for Statsny

Anyone know of any examples on teams trading up?

I remember Philadelphia moved down for the Steve Downie pick. Not sure what the package was.

It happens every year.

We traded our 1st (7th) and our 2nd in '08 to move up to 5th for Schenn

I really hope Burke does everything he can to draft Gabriel Landeskog. Game like Forsberg, Alfredsson, and he is the Swedish Jarome Iginla...
Captain material, works hard every night, fights, Burke-Type player, size to play on Kessel's wing, skill, scoring, amazing player.

Us to take Schenn:

Our first (7th), a 2nd, and a 3rd.

Sharks to take Setoguchi:

Sharks at 12 - moved to 8th.

Gave up: 12th overall, 2nd rounder, 7th.

Habs to take Tinnordi:

Started at 27th, moved up to 22nd.

Gave up 27th and 57th for 22nd and 113th.

Obviously there's more.

So 3 assets from ~25-40 should be enough to move down significantly.

He'd have to get to the top 3 to get Landeskog, he could very well go 1st overall at this point.
