I personally would like to see more logic and less emotion. We all want to see the team stay, but more and more people seem to be demonizing GWI, not to say they don't deserve it. GWI has a valid point that the deal could violate the gift clause in our State Constitution. GWI is drawing attention to that possible fact which is potentially hurting the sale of the bonds needed to complete the deal.

So the valid thing to do, if they were really watchdogs, would be to file for a declaratory judgment that would allow for there to be a legal ruling on the matter. Thus, ending all the conjecture (and therefore increased risk) surrounding the bonds.

But they aren't. Instead, they want to play games and sink the deal without it every going to curt. Who are they to dictate policy? They are not elected, merely, they are a shoddy group of partisan individuals who clearly tow a certain party line.

Where We Stand

Quote:
Multiple reports suggest there is growing interest among bond buyers to buy-in and salvage the sale of the team to Chicago businessman, Matt Hulsizer, but sources say while the possibility exists the bonds could be sold this week, there's a reluctance to say either the league or the city of Glendale is optimistic a deal is imminent.

Time is of the essence and this story could change on an hour-by-hour basis depending on whether the interested bond buyers formally make their move. But the fact the NHL has not set a deadline or pulled the plug on this sale, suggests the league is hopeful a deal to keep the Coyotes in Glendale can still be reached.

If Bryz walks, Yandle can't be signed long term etc... then the asset loses a ton of value because we won't be a playoff team.

Good. The uncertainty is gone. GWI put its card on the table. Time for the CoG to fold or go all in.

Says GWI will sue as soon as the deal closes. It means all the bs that has flown around for months now will collide and we will see who is telling the truth.

Anyone want to shop Bettman onto Leonidas and Olsen on an Immortal from 300? "We put them to the test"

GWI is suing. Neither MH nor the NHL will wait for the case to be resolved. Either the city buys expensive bonds now and moves on with the litigation after ownership is transferred, or they back out of the deal, cut theirs losses and the team leaves.

No matter what happens, this should speed things up.

I think Canada has crashed the GWI website.

I'm sure their servers are getting slammed, as I doubt they're not used to so much traffic. It took a while to load on my end, too.

Long story short, GWI has announced they're suing Glendale. Whether this is good or bad news depends on how that plays out, I guess, but it's at least moving us toward the end.

GWI is suing CoG.

Shouldn't be long now, one way or the other.

Can't the NHL defer the 100 mil part of the price until legal action is resolved? I don't think they want to cave into GWI. That would mean letting someone else other than the league dictate where a franchise ends up. See Balsille, Jim.

After examining more than 1,000 pages of documents provided by the City of Glendale under court order in the past 10 business days, the Goldwater Institute is announcing today that it will file a legal challenge to the agreement between the City of Glendale and Chicago businessman Matthew Hulsizer to subsidize the purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes. The deal has not been signed by the parties yet but is expected to close soon.
Note the last sentence of the above quote from the GWI press release. I can't help but derive some hope from the fact that even GWI thinks that the deal is going to close soon.

Once it does close, MH will have control of the team and this will be between GWI and Glendale. In other words, they will wrangle in court for months (or probably years), while we get to continue enjoying our Coyotes.

Not if the bonds don't sell due to the lawsuit. Remember, nothing is signed yet. If CoG were able to ram it through like you proposed, they would have done so with a Mack truck months ago.

If this is the case, then that is good news for us!

Gary Bettman's ego is one thing, but I just can't imagine the league waiting any longer. The BoG wouldn't support it.

And unlike in the Balsillie case, the NHL still choses where the team goes and how much to charge for the relocation.

It's not in the league's interest to get involved here.

It does indeed smell of desperation. It seems like the city's just about to sell the bonds, leaving GWI no option but to act on their threats.

I hope the City of Glendale files a massive counter claim.
