I am all for giving Fehr one more year, especially if he takes Knuble's spot next year on the top 2 lines. He doesn't really have a spot in the lineup as of now with the acquisitions but he has shown us that he can excel under pressure (he is the Winter Classic hero), not ready to give up on him
Funny thing. I just looked at the Selke voting last year. 19 finished 10th, 8 finished 28...and 16 finished 33.

Not sure if this is elsewhere but did anyone read what Arnott said in the post? He ripped our team .... and I like it.
"It's tough, but I can't hold anything back," Arnott said of being an experienced veteran yet the newest player. "They brought me in for a reason, to speak up in the room, and there are certain things we have to address if we want to go forward. If these guys want to win there's a lot of things that we need to address and play a lot better than we did tonight.

fer real?
big guy with good hands and a somewhat recognizable defensive game is always gonna have value - yea it sucks he is injured so often but it does keep his salary down.

i think that's more of an artifact of the point-to-place rubric and small statistics than a meaningful comparison.
...or that one first-place votes was a sportswriter from florida who didn't understand how to fill out the ballot.
Just hilarious since Blysma and their fans are always talking about how much Ovie cherry picks and about how Crosby will be winning Selke's in his 30s.
Ov got a 1st place vote. So that voter must be watching when Ov is dogging on particular player in regular meetings without an ax to grind against him. Not sure who that might be. I can think of search and destroy against Malkin but no pittsburgh voter does that. so....
ov's not winning any selkes, but i think his defensive game is a little bit needlessly maligned insofar as he knows how to read the play in the defensive zone very well. his OT goal last night was a good read of where a desperation pass was going, and i think that's every bit as much of a defensive play as someone whose role on the team is to play the lock or shadow a high-scoring winger - it's just not as conspicuous.

Koivu at 11 is a joke, IMO. Also think Hanzal, Zetterberg, ans Hossa should have been higher.
Why do you say that about Mikko Koivu and last season? I haven't looked at behindthenet stats or anything detailed, but general reaction to his season...strong in the faceoff circle and played effectively in all situations and played a lot of minutes on the PK on a middle of the pack or better (don't recall where they finished exactly) team (and not a Lemaire coached team.)

For me, he's comfortably in the top 3 defensive forwards in the league. Don't agree in the least with some of the players ahead of him.
Yeah there is a big difference between being able to speak a language well enough to be comfortable giving interviews in said language and speaking the language well enough to communicate with your teammates.
Semin speaks English well enough for the latter and I couldn't care less about the former.
I think Arnott speaking to Semin will be a good thing as then he will have more exposure to English. Hearing more English will help to instill more confidence. Just hanging with the Russian guys can't be helping him grow and learn a new language.
Also since Arnott is a 1,000 game vet. He won't be intimidated by Semin as a younger guy might be. Besides what could a younger guy tell/teach Semin whereas Arnott should be a fountain of knowledge. I think this is definitely a great situation.
Plus I like the idea of new eyes coming into the Caps group. You see things that those are always there don't and ask the why question.
Lol @ Mike Modano getting one 1st place vote and nothing else.

Top 3 defensive forwards or top 3 forwards at playing a two-way game? I have no question he's in the top 5 at playing both offensively and defensively, but Koivu isn't one of the best 3 defensive forwards in the game. There are plenty of defensive specialists who are better than him, but contribute little to nothing on the scoresheet.

Because the voters don't actually vote for the best defensive forward. They vote for it as basically "best two-way forward." Which is a complete joke, since that's not what the trophy's description is. You see a handful of voters on there that actually voted for pure defensive forwards (Vernon Fiddler, Blair Betts, etc.), but most of them vote for "two-way" guys like Datsyuk, Toews, and Kesler.
It's a freaking joke that Eric Fehr finished ahead of Brooks Laich in either a defensive forward or two-way forward contest.
