Laperriere close to sign with Colorado

According to Sportnets...

Teams address depth, grit

The free-agent market continues to revolve around teams addressing depth, as Colorado, Calgary and Chicago all added more grit to the forward position.

Sportsnet.ca - Highly coveted forward Ian Laperriere is closing in on a new four-year deal with the Colorado Avalanche, sources have told Sportsnet. Deals involving Chris Simon and Matthew Barnaby were also finalized Friday

Like I said, just because Lapperriere is from Montreal and lives in Montreal, doesn't make it certain that he will play for Montreal.

However, seeing that he could sign with the Avs, I would much rather see him in Montreal.

He is also still a Group II RFA as well.

The same sportsnet who said on Monday that Belfour was done with the Laffs, only to have him re-signed 2 days later?

They are far from credible. Better wait for another source.

Laperriere at ~$5M per would've been too much. See: Martin Lapointe.

new kid on the block. Glad to be talking with the greatest sports fans in the world.
Anyway, as for Laperriere, I've loved this guy for years. he's a good all around player who would of been perfect on our 3rd or 4th line. I'm extremely dissappointed

First off, welcome to the the board!

As for Lappy, dont worry, nothings finalized yet. Col could be one of the many teams hes talking to, where we could possibly one of them. When its all said and done, thats when you can morn or cheer. Untill then.............!!!!!!!

Perhaps $5 million over 4 years....I think that's what they're suggesting.

That would be $1.25 million/year, much more reasonable for Lappy.

Honestly, I'm not surprised to see him signed elsewhere.

I was thinking about this this morning, it is always bad news when we all think it is a foregone conclusion that some player "HAS to sign with Montreal". Because 95% of the time, it doesn't happen.

So, way to go! You jinxed it!

First Lapperière is NOT a group II RFA... can't say it enough

Second he's a group V UFA

Third until it's on tsn.ca it's not done

But don't tell that to GKJ

I dunno

Maybe this might be true and the Habs were only gonna sign Lappy just incase a deal with Kovy or one of the others couldn't be done..Lets hope i'm right.

Why are we all going crazy over UFA signings...

We've got two youngsters that are ready IMO : Plekanec and Higgins.

Maybe Hossa is ready too. We've got to make place for them.

Of course we would be better with Lappy and Kovalev but I really don't mind if Gainey doesn't sign anyone.

I can already see the threads : Gainey sitting on his ass, Gainey doing nothing, has Gainey lost it ? , etc

We're not the freakin' leafs or rangers !

It probably will end up true (based on the fact that stuff I want to happen never happens and vice versa) but Sportsnet is hardly a reliable source.

As someone mentionned, Belfour was done in a Leafs uni to them.
Dominik Hasek signed with Ottawa a month ago, according to them.
So did Kris Draper.

That's the only consistent part in your story. But you've been saying that for all the wrong reasons.

Oh and you could still be wrong

BG to Lap's agent: I'll give you $7M over 4 years, then.

Found another source, the Avs official site:

http://www.coloradoavalanche.com/new...ils.asp?ID=225

Oh well, I really wanted Lappy but if he truly got 4 years then I am happy he didn't sign with us. He's not the second coming and the Habs are not a team that should be dishing out long term deals to checkers before the new CBA. There are still lots of interesting options on the market if BG is looking for a 3rd/4th line grinder. Marshall, Mellanby, Harvey, Stevenson, Battaglia, etc to name a few.
