I can't wait for this game to come out though... supposely there's going to be some sort of new feature they've never tried before in any other EA Sports game too.

It is supposed to be on August 24th or something like that. But who knows if that'll change or not...

Realistic gameplay? :lol

ESPN NHL 2K5 is suppose to come out September 7th, so I assume both games will be out for the World Cup.

Yeah, I'm definitely more interested in that game. I just know several people that work for EA and I always hear announcements before they are posted. Last I heard it was planned for late August. And I'm pretty sure the date was the 24th.

EA actually had the release date specified as 'JULY' but didn't give a date, but I'm not sure if thats changed. In New Zealand its August 27th, I just looked yesterday hoping to get a preorder on the game thinking it'd be out in 2 weeks or something. But alas.. I think last year NZ was only a few days behind North America, but I can't really remember.

I'll go with the ESPN game - much better game play IMO. But probably like every year - I'll break down and buy them both. Just excited to see how good they make Nash on this year's games

The scores, stats, and everything in between was very realistic. Hell, I'm still playing it now, but I can't wait for the release of NHL 2005. As someone mentioned in this thread, EA is trying to get it out by mid-to-late August in order to get it out in time for the World Cup.

Ea blows compared to ESPN Hockey. With the sliders Espn is much more realistic than EA's crap they pawn year after year.

Would it even make sense to release NHL 2005 if there's no hockey come this fall?
I think so.

....

I just hope they improve their fighting system on the next espn game. EA at least got off to a good start there.

Hands down the EA blows ESPN out of the water in Franchise Mode.....now to really kill of ESPN,if EA just copied Madden's owner mode,EA would be the game to beat.

Franchise mode? I could care less as long as my defensemen run to the neutral zone when the opposing forward comes into my zone. Defensive AI is not existant.
Wait it does exist. It's meant to make stupid "chicken without a head" moves while opposing forwards have the whole zone to toy with (and still they shoot from the blueline on a breakaway).
Sorry, but EA's games haven't been realistic since EA 96.
Change any slider you want, it's the AI that sucks.

Sega's game has its flaws as well, the most obvious being the goalies, but the defensive AI is certainly there. And there, the forwards don't shoot from the blueline on breakaways.
Of course the management sucks. But it's much easier to correct than the whole gameplay.
And they TRY to make some efforts.
EA serves up the same AI every year.

Agreed. The gameplay in EA blows. I do love the franchise mode and the way they make the younger players improve according to their potential. Its fun building a young team and watching them become dominant.

It's a video game

Ive bought everyEa sports NHL that has come out since 92 for various systems and I think it's much better than espn.... It's easy to master... well not easy but it's stilla great hockey game....

Why havent they ever used maddens idea of using older teams .. like the Oilers teams from the 80's/ or the isles from the 70's that would but this game over the top for me.. I'd love to be esa Tikanen or Gretzky in his prime..... there are so many things that could be easily added to the realism that its scary... anyways I love what they do every year even tho its easy sometimes... its a video game people.. if u play it enough ur gonna be good at it...
