Its better than having the big banner at the bottom of the screen during play

I do agree it's a creative way to get ad revenue but I found it very, very, very distracting tonight. I've seen it in other NHL games but it never really bothered me because I don't pay as much attention as Canucks games.

I *highly* doubt they can get me to subconsciously apply to BCIT. Although their Applied Sciences Program is looking pretty good right now....

I was also distracted by these ads as well. I really don't like altering what is seen by the camera unless it is necessary or provides useful information.

Just because MSG started it doesn't mean Sportsnet needed to copy it. I wrote sportsnet and a couple of the advertisers with my concerns.

As long as it doesnt cover 20% of the screen like the Ford ad, i am okay with it.

I think writing them will send the opposite message from what you intend. It will say to the executives that the advertisements are working because people are clearly noticing them and taking an interest in their presence.

As long as there are no ads on the jereys.. I don't really care. Bottom line is that the more money sportsnet brings in per game, the more money they will spend on production.

i'm against all forms of adcreep

the form of advertising i hate the most has actually been around a long time in north american sports: the announcers promoting products or television shows on the network...i shouldn't have to listen to jim hughson tell us to tune into a new episode of dragon's den in the middle of a hockey game

well, i supposse we are going to have to get used to them. i have become so proficient with my pvr usage ,that recently i watched 2 football games almost, simoultaneously, sans commercials and intermission features. it was only 15 minutes after the games actually ended that i finished watching. ...the ads on the bottom of the screen ,(ford,) are the most annoying, and counter productive, i imagine. why not put them on after the whistle?

I was sad to see the adds on the glass behind the nets. I've noticed them before and they're definitly distracting. Next thing you know Canucks will have a big Telus logo on their helmet like the World Championships. Thumbs down.

That's hardly 'marketing', let alone 'clever marketing'.

I'm not going to Subway any time soon, so they should just give up. For me, it's just a pain.

What really gets me is the soccer jerseys. The corporate logo is bigger than the actual team logo. That's completely insane.

I can stand having logos like the CFL has for ScotiaBank and Rona with the small crests on the shoulders, but the huge logo on the front?! Way worse than what SPAC is doing.

It's not these ads that bother me per se, they're easy enough to tune out, it's the idea of what comes next as we get acclimated to them and the technology gets better. Digital ads superimposed over everything but the ice surface?

I think it has been only done on the specialty channel (old-PPV) games this year. Might be a way for the suits to recuperate the lost income from switching to a free format.

They already have ads on the ice surface, so we are half way to acceptance already.

Well that's erroneous. This isn't some short term buzz marketing technique. They're not 'trying' to make a splash, it's not like SN wants to show off they sell advertising.

This is supposed to be a long term project, definitely something you don't want under scrutiny.

I think the Orca bay entertainment group should put more adds around the arena so they can keep the beer @ 9 bucks a glass...

This is the first game that I noticed them and wondered that as well. If that's the price to pay for not having any more PPV games, I'm ok with it.

I would imagine that the next step would be ads superimposed on the far-side glass.

That said, yes, the last thing we need, even if it's not the worst thing in the world, is more advertising to look at every day.

That's basically how advertising like this works, though. If you have enough brand saturation, then that brand becomes the first name you think of.
