Condition on 2012 Pick from LA

Just wondering what the condition on the 2012 draft pick is in the Penner trade. I am getting some conflicting report. TSN reported the condition was a 2nd rd pick in 2012 should LA make the playoffs this year. Eddy O during the Hawks & Wild game said that pick turns into conditional 2nd if the Kings win the cup this year.

Does anyone know the exact details on the conditional Pick.

if they make the playoffs, it's a 2nd if they don't it's a 3rd.

Incorrect, it's if they win the cup, thats why we would rather it not be a 2nd

The condition is if they win the Cup the Oilers receive a 2nd as compensation. If not, they receieve a 3rd.

What you mean is that our first round selection drops while our 3rd gets bumped to a second?

That is incorrect. They have the actual trade call at Oilers.com and the condition is LA Kings winning the Stanley Cup.

Again you can verify this for yourself by going to Oilers.com and pulling up the videos.

You will hear the actual trade call that verifies the above info. TSN is not correct.

Do you have the link to the trade call on oilers.com?

Weird thing about this is that I can recall Duthie explaining the condition quite transparently.

exactly would you rather have a 22nd pick and a 72nd or 30 and a 60?

May as well have added Penner getting the Conn Smythe. What a condition.

I'll take A for 94 please. I have faith in Stu's selection in a 3rd. The 22nd puts in better contention to draft a quality center. With the ability to trade up.

With the West being so tight, I hope LA drops a bunch of games and misses the play-offs. 12-14th overall would be what the doctor ordered.

I dont understand why do all the sites and wikipedia have it as a second if LA makes the playoffs if that is not the case?

Ideally for our pick's sake LA gets bounced in the 1st round or misses the postseason altogether. If they get to the cup then their 2nd would be almost like a 3rd anyway.

Ok... so realistically the Oilers traded for Teubert, a 2011 1st and a 2012 3rd. The chances of that 3rd becoming a 2nd are remote to say the least.

I'd rather see the Kings slump and make the 1st this year as high as possible for the Oilers rather than see that 3rd tuned into a 2nd with a Kings cup win.

It's actually embarassing to have that clause in there. Oil should have held out for the 2nd pick (even next years) even if we had to throw in something like a 4th to make it happen.

So I hope no one spent time negotiating on that pick or tamby got bent over. Its a third, why even waste the nhl's time having to add that description on their website

So if the Kings win the cup this year Edmonton gets a top five pick(ours) plus the 30th pick. So to compensate for such a late first rounder, they give us a 2nd in 2012 instead of a 3rd rounder.

I just puked in my mouth thinking this through.

I'll take option C: 30th pick this year and 31st next year, since the 2nd/3rd is a 2012 draft pick, the Kings could win the Cup, giving us 30th this year, and finish dead last next year giving us the 31st.
